Violence that has hit close to home for me

As my thoughts and prayers have been focussed on my friend the past few days with the tragic news of a SWAT standoff and death rocking their family, I have been reflecting on violent events that have hit close to home for me. The list is longer than I had ever really thought. I take personal defense seriously and believe that everyone should at least give it some thought in their own lives.*

Bad things can happen to everyday normal folks out doing their normal routine things. I try to be prepared through several simple habits that don't even include carrying a firearm; but of course I do when I can - and I train with it.

Here's a list of violent events that have hit close to home for me:

Sierra West Jewelry Robbed at gunpoint (Wife was working in the store)

Virginia Tech Massacre (Brother In Law in class not far from shootings)

Pharmacy Robbery (My mom was a pharmacy tech when robbed)

SWAT Standoff in Magna (block from my house involving neighbors' condos)

SWAT Standoff in Riverton (Co-worker's family directly involved)

Trolley Square Shooting (friend working in a shop at Trolley Square)

This one is a bit of a stretch, but paints the picture of an everyday routine activity possibly ending in your last activity.
Concealed Weapon holder stops multiple attempted murders (My nephew's dad's ex-coworker's husband is stabbing victim)

man, I'm going to start carrying more places. I'll admit, I don't usually carry when I go to the grocery store...

Im living in Virginia now, and working in D.C. I chose to live in Va specifically because my permit is valid there. It is horrible watching the news at night about the violence in D.C. and knowing I can't pack there. Plus there is a different mentality out here about guns. Everyone thinks you are crazy if you pack.

I think the worst thing would to be a usual carrier, who forgot his gun the one time he needed it. I do try to always have it with me.

My Glock is a little big for CC but unless I am going on base it is always on me.

I do want to eventually get something easier to conceal, but it is hard imo to beat 16rds of 10mm.
