As my thoughts and prayers have been focussed on my friend the past few days with the tragic news of a SWAT standoff and death rocking their family, I have been reflecting on violent events that have hit close to home for me. The list is longer than I had ever really thought. I take personal defense seriously and believe that everyone should at least give it some thought in their own lives.*
Bad things can happen to everyday normal folks out doing their normal routine things. I try to be prepared through several simple habits that don't even include carrying a firearm; but of course I do when I can - and I train with it.
Here's a list of violent events that have hit close to home for me:
Sierra West Jewelry Robbed at gunpoint (Wife was working in the store)

Virginia Tech Massacre (Brother In Law in class not far from shootings)

Pharmacy Robbery (My mom was a pharmacy tech when robbed)

This one is a bit of a stretch, but paints the picture of an everyday routine activity possibly ending in your last activity.
