OK I am back to looking for a new computer....
So whats you opinion on Vista. if you were buying a new computer, which would you use?

Also I have heard that Intel is dropping thier prices on the 2cores end of April. Anyone know if that is true?

Anyone want to build me a computer;)

Will I notice much performance difs from e6300-e6700 processors?

Remember basically building for Photoshop, no gaming....

Vista is good. The problem is that most people are afraid of change and their current computers can't handle the power that Vista requires...

But - I run Vista on my laptop (started as an experiment) that is older and not up to Vista specs, and it runs the Aero interface without a problem. The newish layout and file management takes a little getting used to, but overall Vista isn't as bad as many people say.

In all honesty, if I were to get a newish PC, I would get Vista. If you were looking to upgrade a newish pc from XP to vista... wait for Vista service pack 1.

Also, if you use critical software for your day to day use... make sure it is compatible with Vista or has an upgrade option to make it compatible.

I agree for the most part with Shane, Vista isn't all bad but has some serious issues with compatibility. If you're going to be making money with this machine then I would be more likely to stick with XP Pro, at our office we won't be deploying Vista till bare minimum SP1. (odd service packs on windows usually suck though :D)

If it were me I'd be going with OS X

Vista is ok, but it has nothing I need so I am not willing to give up the horse power to run it. Granted I'm on an a64 3200 now, but if I had the latest and greatest I'd still rather have the clock cycles than the pretty of Vista.

I've been doing acceptance testing on Vista last week, it's not ready yet, our benchtesting application shows Vista uses almost 15% more system resources then XP, basically on same hardware XP will run significantly faster, drivers are still an issue, though some hardware can use the XP drivers. I'de use Vista on 64 bit hardware, because of some of the 64 bit optimization stuff, but in general, it's not ready.

Can't believe we have a VISTA discussion without a word from the BOFH...

"I..."

"You should go to Vista."

"So you like Vista?"

"Not really, no. I run a Vista simulator."

"Virtual Server?" the Boss asks.

"Nah, I just turned on all the flashy crap in XP, changed the background image, took some memory out of my box and clocked down the CPU. Then broke Media player. Works like a charm."

"So you don't like it?"

"No. But it has does have one advantage."

"What's that?"

"It causes a clean reinstall of XP which is generally good from a defrag point of view."
