If im correct the spring width between a wagoneer dana 44 and a yj dana 30 is about 3/4 of an inch? So for a swap is there enough play to just swap them or whats the best route? Im talking about stayng spring under, new perches? would that involve cutting part of the housing?

I have waggy d44s on my cj8. On your yj you would want to move the perches which requires cutting them off of the housing. The housing itself isn't cut just the perches. On a cj I narrowed the front to get it to center up properly and stay with the spring under perch that is part of cast center diff housing. YJs have wider frames so you probably wouldn't have to narrow anything but you would need to see how the front lines up. You might have to move the left side perch on the front.

I think youre really close in your estimate of 3/4" difference between spring perches of the YJ and waggy. To make the Waggy 44 fit under the YJ it takes a little bit of work. You have to grind a little off the inside edge of the diff since the drivers side perch is molded into it. Then you have to weld the old center pin hold up and drill a new one 3/8" inside of it. On the pass side its easy to just cut off the old perch and weld on a new on 3/8" in from where the old one was.
