Hmmm... an early Artic Truck conversion? You got me...

yep

But, was it OEM Toyota??

nope

The dudes name is Smári Sigurbjörnsson from Iceland:greg:... 1980 Toyota Hilux. He said that it has a 22R engine, ARB air lockers front and
rear, 38" radial mudders on 15x15" wheels. The rear half of this Hilux is a custom built steel enclosure due to rust.

looks sweet...

The hilux's had an OEM 4 door option in the early 80's... So why is it that Toyota can't offer as many of it's sweet models to the US? Is there not enough demand?

Quite the oppisite, tariffs and taxes... American automakers would be destroyed if Toyota and the other foreign auto-makers had full imports to the US. The US government has to stablize its imports/exports and trade deficits, taxes and tariffs on imports is one of them. In addition to that, many of the vehicles don't meet the US's EPA and DOT standards... though they might pass them, they havn't always been tested. Candada gets ALOT of the Toyotas we lust after... JDM's they are called... 20+ companies importing LC's into Canada alone.

You see alot of 70 Series troopies in the US as they are on "tour" here... Affluent folks from Europe, Africa, etc here to tour. I've met folks from S. Africa, Germany, England, France, etc... with their imported troopies.

I guess it could be a problem but I wish we could get them easier...

On another note I am loving this...

Its never been built... nor started I beleive. Looks like a neat concept, but the whole 3B to C6 to split-case is highly unlikely. Not sure what is 40 Series about it??

Here is an ACTUAL similar setup :D

Very cool
I wasn't sure if it was built or not but I want one... I love the concept of using a computer base for all the electronics (ie. navigation, music, communication [to a degree])... and with the prices of laptops falling there is no reason why it shouldn't become more and more popular and it would be totally customizable and fairly easy to integrate for the DIYer... :greg:
