So I bought an xj the other day in has the dana 30 in front with a lockright locker and 3.55 gears (stock) I'm thinking of purchasing 4.56 s for the d 30 and 8.25 I know I would need a low gear carier for the 30, My question is would I be able to re use my lockright? any info would help thanks.

Because the lockrite just replaces the spider gears in the carrier, I don't think it's gear specific. In other words, you should be able to use it. Check their website to see if they offer different lockers for different ratios to be sure.

What transmission are you running?

I've run 4:56's with 33's in an XJ with an auto trans and when on the freeway, the trans was continually shifting between 3rd and OD. I've run 4:88's with 33's for the past 6 years and the ratio is perfect for road and trail.

If you have a 5 speed manual trans, 4:56's will be fine with 33s and even 35's, but if you are running a 4.0L/AW4 auto combo, you'll regret spending your money on a re-gear to 4:56's, only to find that your rig is under-powered, plus your fuel economy will blow because the motor will have to work harder to move your rig down the road because it won't be operating in it's optimum power range.

My XJ build thread might help with your new XJ project: http://naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=913774&page=2

You are on the right track. Gears make such a difference in a rig.

Your lock rite will fit in as long as the new carrier you get isn't a limited slip carrier.

They do make 4.88s for an 8.25.
