Water Trailer Build

I thought I would post up a write up that I'm doing on another forum...

I'm building a small trailer to tow behind the Kubota. It will have a 125 gallon water tank on it. I currently have no well at the cabin, so I need a way to haul water from my brother's place to mine. I figure in the future when I do have my well in, it will be handy to haul water to other parts of my 6.23 acres when I need it.

I have a bunch of scrap metal on hand, so I'm going to see how cheaply I can do this build. The frame is built out of some 3 inch c-channel I had. I had to purchase the d-rings, and the suspension set, so far I'm just over $100 in.

Time to move the project outside for a while so I can test fit the tank. I wanted to see if I have enough room around the perimeter of the trailer to build some 6 inch high rails. Looks like I do.

Also, I finally got to try out the new bucket hooks I welded on a few weeks back!

My plans for this one in the future after I get my well in is to put a battery operated sprinkler timer on it to meter flow to some trees while I'm not there. Just need to keep it full and place the trailer where it will do the most good, then I can start planting some trees.

Finally got a little time to work on the trailer today. I focused my time on preparing the axle for paint. The axle sat on a farm for the last 40 or so years waiting to be built into a trailer, but the owner lost interest, so he said I could have it. The first pic is the monstrosity that was welded to it that I cut off to get to the good part. Second pic shows that the axle is 1.75 inch solid steel. Way hefty. I sleeved it to the correct length with 2X2X.120. It slid right in with just a touch of grinding.

After 10yrs of hauling a 225gal tank in the back of my truck all over the country, I would suggest beefing up the hold-down legs for the tank.. like, bend some new ones and add bracing. I snapped quite a few bolts off before I had some better legs made.

The legs that go over the tank.. They aren't really that strong when it comes to holding 1,000+lbs of tank and water if say, you get rear-ended by some idiot in PA.. I had my tank oriented crossways, but the principles are the same. Some farmer in central PA welded up some long gussets to some bent Sch40, worked great. Had bigger feet too, with 3 big bolts for each one.

OK, I see what your saying now. This trailer is never going to see pavement, only about a mile of dirt road from my place to my brother's. The tank is going to be tied down to the D-rings with ratchet straps. It won't go anywhere.
