He was filling up when a call came in and that happened threee times that day so he could never really fill completely up. I am sure there is a perfectly good explanation for this.

As much TV and Radio time as he has had you would think he was a little more careful of his actions.

If he did this he is a complete dumb ass! It doesn't take a police detective to figure this out

I doubt this is the case. I'm sure he enters his mileage everytime he slides his card so it won't throw a red flag unless it doesn't compute.

I could see this being a mistake of it was once, maybe twice that he accidentally swiped the wrong card.. That happens to me now and then on purchases I'm tying to keep under the wife's radar. Oops.. But, he used the card for fuel 3-4 times two different days.. Like Kiel said, doesn't take a detective to see what's going on.

With that said, I think that after further evaluation of his past financial records/expense reports if this turns out to be iscolated to just this last month, then he should be punished via leave with no time off, pay a fine, or whatever... If this is something that has been ongoing then he should see dismisal; possibly some type of criminal charges if it's clearly been ongoing for years.

Wow. Career over. I think they are taking this too far. He should have been fired, but this seems too small beans to prosecute.

IT seems like he pissed a few people off during his campaign, and now they have an opportunity to use him as an example.

His story is pretty sad, and he seemed like a decent guy the few times I met him, but in a way I can't help but think; you reap what you sew...

x2. Taxpayers are going to spend tens of thousands to prosecute over $50. I'm still wondering if there is more then they are releasing

There must be more to it than the $50. They've sealed the case and I didn't think you could be charged with a felony for less than (something higher than $50, like $200 or something)???

It's because it's public money I believe. That's why it's a bigger deal.

That being said, I think Sim is just trying to make some noise by taking down a hi-profile person as one of his first big cases. Kind of silly when you consider the amount of shady money that gets moved around in the government. A waste of tax dollars prosecuting this.

12+ years ago when I lived in South Salt Lake Beau was in the department and I liked the guy. He had the respect of the other employees there not because he was "he mean boss" but because he "was one of them". Or at least that is the opinion than I got from him and from talking with the deputies.

What sucks is that no matter what happens in the courts at this time, innocent or guilty this will tank his career. It sounds like he has already stood up and said "I did it" I will pay it back. What else does a prosecutor need to hear? Getting fired should be on the table, getting repremanded, punished, etc should all be on the table, but the punishment should fit the crime.

There is such a two faced approach with government officials. Take his petty $50 crime where his life will be ruined because of it and compare it with Grantsville Police Chief Dan Johnson who got a slap on the wrist for poaching.

Both Beau and Johnson screwed up, both got caught, and both quickly admitted their guilt and are willing to take what is due to them. Beau will get strung out for life because of this, if this was you or I we would get a slap on the wrist and a ticket, and maybe a chat with a judge. In contrast Johnson got a slap on the wrist and off easy. You and I would have had our firearms and vehicles confiscated plus lost hunting rights, ticket, animal restitution, etc. Johnson got off easy, Beau gets the crack down.

It is my opinion that Sim Gill is a weenie for prosecuting this the way he has. I am sure this is his own personal agenda against a Republican who he did not get along with. I agree it should be prosecuted, but there are better ways to work with people.
