i have a 93 cherokee country 4door and the heater/vent system is super weak... it only has one speed and its like ultra low, i can change the knob and it just stays the same on all the settings. i can also use all the functions (heat, vent and defrost). i don't know if this would be the blower motor or what so i thought i would see if anyone else has dealt with this. i guess i should mention the air is even hot but it is just weak

thanks guys

Sounds like it time to replace the blower motor.

if it was the blower motor wouldn't the speed still change for different settings? i don't get it and i don't know anything about the fan switch or how to replace either. i have searched on naxja and every thread i find about it they just tell the person to search and no real helpful info is given out... cool huh?

Just put 12V straight to the Blower fan.. if it goes faster that way than it does with the switch you know it is the switch.. if not then go with the Blower :)..

Yep. The different speeds are produced by using resistors. Sometimes they are in the motor and sometimes in the switch. Check the wiring diagram to find out for sure.

I know my 01 is in the switch.. I don't have a 93 FSM so you are on your own there.. but you should be able to tell either way by giving it to it straight :)

The 93 uses resistors to drop the speed. The resistor pack is mounted on the heater box so that the air will cool the resistors. I have switches, resistors, and blower motors laying around if you want to try swapping parts. The parts are not too hard to swap out.

i took apart the controls and its the connector that goes to the knob/switch that is all melted. i was messing with it and it changed to hi for a second and it was like a blow dryer so i assume the motor is good but i don't know what to do about that connector

Get out the male and Female connectors and some shrink wrap and make your own connection :).. or run to a pick and pull and see if you can get the connector from there.. then start looking at why it melted.. things grounded that shouldn't be etc

i was thinking about just getting a 4way switch and bypassing the stock setup but i am definitely not an electrical guy so i think i will buy a new stock switch from the zone for like 15 bucks and then get the connector from the junkyard and splice it in place of the melted one. if it happens again i will go the custom route

Stow the NAXJA-tude, dude. What you find is relative to how you search.......

I typed in "melted heater switch plug" and selected OEM Tech Forum Search and came up with several relative threads, none telling me to do another search.......... hope this one helps resolve your issue.

yeah since i didn't know at the time that it was a melted plug... read the thread a little more careful. thanks for the link

so apparently some people use different style connectors and they say that helps but i got a connector from the junkyard and i think i am going to go this route

it just involves putting in relays so that the blower motor doesn't draw so much power through the switch. the guy said it cost him like $35 and i would be happy to fix it for that small a price
