I need to get more exercise and I have come to the realization I am less likely to do it if I don't have at least one other person to do it with. I can't stand going to the gym either, so i much prefer to be outside.

Like many, I work during the day, so the only time I have available is in the evening (I learned a long time ago I will not wake up early to exercise). So, my thought is to setup a weekly hike or snowshoeing adventure so I am motivated to get out, and have someone to go with occasionally. I am thinking Tues, Wed, or Thurs. I am open to the SLC area and would like to see different areas, but I live up north and want to keep the trailhead within an hour of my house. Start time would be 6-7, done by 9-10 or whatever. I am fairly flexible.

Anyone interested in going? Anyone have cool places to recommend? I figured I would start here and a couple of other forums, then expand my search for crazy companions on FB as a last resort.

Can't do it right now but I'm in once the doc clears me. Been on my butt for months and I'm probably in the worse shape of my life, I need it bady.

Tell me when you are clear! I am not in great shape either. I've noticed my stamina is well below where I would like it. I get winded way too easily while hiking.

This sounds like a great excuse to make the kids go outside away from screens. :) With my variable schedule I couldn't commit to a weekly thing, but I would love to explore/have fun/get out of smog/other "let's not call it exercise" activities. :)

A girlfriend and I went for the first time last year up Christmas Meadows in the Uintahs. It was actually a lot funner than I was expecting. I bought a set of snowshoes for this year. But you can rent them at the Bear River Lodge for just a few bucks if you feel like just trying it out.

Anyone free this Thursday? I'd say 630pm at any given trailhead. Dress warm and bring a headlight.
Open to suggestions but looking at Millcreek, Donuts falls, Bountiful Mueler park, etc.

Here is my plan for 12/17:
Hike Ensign Peak
Meet at the trailhead at 6:30pm
I will not have my snowshoes because I doubt I will need them. I will have some show spikes that slide over my boots for traction if needed on the well traveled path.
I expect the hike will take an hour or so to complete (up and back with time at the top to take pictures), but it may be cool to look out over the valley and see the lights, or it could be snowing.

If you want to go, meet at the trailhead at 6:30. I will be parking at 152 N Sandrum RD, Salt Lake City in the church parking lot.

My plan this week is as follows:
When: Tuesday 12/22 @ 6:30pm
Where: East Kaysville Wilderness Park
What: Hiking to Adam's Canyon, possibly to the waterfall if it isn't too deep or slick
Who: Anyone that wants to join on a night hike

I will not be taking snow shoes, but will bring spikes - not full on crampons, but added traction for my boots.

If you want to come, shoot me a text so I look for you at the trailhead. 8O1. 663. 63O5.

Had a decent hike last night in the East Mountain Wilderness Park. I won't go back until it is snowpack though. It gets so much traffic the footprints in the slush froze so you're walking over uneven ice if you can't make your own tracks in the snow. My feet are aching today.

Looking toward Layton & Clearfield.

Looking toward Farmington and West Valley. You can see all the way across the lake to the smelter.

These trees are cool, even from a distance.

A rather boring route in and of itself, but the views were cool and at night I didn't see another soul.

Reviving this as i kinda gave up in Feb when my work went to $#it, but need to get back at it. I am planning on Wed (12/7), and every Wednesday evening for now.

Anyone want to join, or have a suggestion on where to snowshoe or hike in the snow, at night to get some exercise? It would have to be shortish for me to start as it has been a while since I have done any real cardio, so I will be slow, but I will be getting out weekly on Wednesdays until something comes up to stop me.

For next week (12/7), I am thinking Ensign peak again. It was a decent hike, and likely won't require snowshoes. Let me know if you want to join. Likely starting at 5:30-6:00 ish at the trail head. If folks want to join later, I can accommodate that too.
