Weird dana 44 FF pressure.

When My dana 44 rear full floater get's up to speed (60) it leaks axle oil all over out the locking hub.

I pulled everything out to the bearing and it looks fine. I just thought it was the speeds that made it come out but to try and combat the mess I strapped a inner tube type seal on the outside of the hub and it just made a balloon of oil and exploded.

I was thinking of just throwing some gasket maker behind the selectable hub but that will probably blow out too. I have tried to clean out the breather on the axle but it seems clean.

Should I make another breather to combat the pressure thing or am I looking at it wrong?

Would hub slugs fix it?

There has to be an underlying cause of the pressure. I would pull the cover and make sure you can blow air freely through the vent tube hole.

I would guess blocked vent too. Check it out.

Use compressed air on the line from the diff... I've seen them get some diff fluid in a low spot and block it all up. A lot of people with ARB's have this issue and think it's the o rings.... Air's gotta go somewhere and it's usually through a seal if the tube is blocked.

Thanks I will do that. Pulling the cover and blowing out is a sure way to tell.

You don't need to pull the cover, just pull the hose off and blow compressed air through it. You can also check the fitting on the axle to be sure it's hole is open....

Done both those things Wayne. I'm not afraid to put my mouth on it either. But it's inside further because the hose is clear and so is the nipple coming off the diff. I need to go deeper.

That's what she said...

... no, really. My wife said you should investigate further.. in your rear end. Ah, man, this went badly.

I hope you get your pressure issue figured out. :D

Just remember: axles need to breath just like we do.

The only other thing I have seen cause this (besides what has been mentioned) is way too much gear oil. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should fill your axle through the breather. :D

I highly doubt that's the problem, but ya gotta cover all the bases.
