Welded spiders in 8.25

Can anyone tell me how to weld spider gears in 8.25. Would you use a mig or arc. Do think the 8.25 will be OK with welded. Any info is greatly appreciated.

We might want to know what size and brand of tire you're running. Most likely if you've run locked you should be fine. Most guys fill in some teeth, then weld the spider to the inside of the carrier. Why they fill in the teeth, I don't know.
I'd say nothing over 35's, you might be pushing it with that too if they're heavy.

Is it possible to do with carrier in the diff or should I remove it. Rookie at this.

hmm....just curious, but is it the 27 or 29 spline 8.25?

The cleaner the parts the better the weld........If you can get them CLEAN in the housing, go for it. I'd probably tack things together and take the carrier/spiders out, clean everything again and go to town with the welder.

Pull it out, remove the ring gear, clean it with Brake cleaner or Throttle body cleaner to remove the oil, let it dry, cover the bearings, and weld it up. Make sure you can still pull the cross pin and put your c-clips back in.

Let it cool SLOWLY.

if you have the choice between mig and arc I would actually recommend an arc over mig but if you know what you are doing with the welder, either can and will work...

Fill in the voids between the spider gears and the side gears. Don't weld them to the case though.

i've done one with Gtaw then went over it with a MIG and it seems to be holding up fine. it was an AMC20.

How long should it take to do this. I was thinking about doing this after work tonight but I have to finish it tonight so I can drive it to work tomorrow.
