Have you checked with Taylorsville High? I took some classes there earlier this year. I don't think they were planning to continue them though. Most of the schools in Utah have discontinued their metal shop classes.

I took a welding class run by the Salt Lake School District. It was mostly a quick how-to for a day and then the rest of the days were spent working on projects with help/input form the instructor. If you're looking for advanced, high-quality training, I can't say whether or not this would be the place to go because I got so involved in my projects (MIG), that I didn't take advantage of any of the instructor's offers to teach me other types of welding like Oxy-Acetylene, Arc, or TIG. It was a real bargain though. I think it was like $120 for three hours per week over about three months. It's a great way to get access to equipment. There were several people who stay signed up year-round and are just in there using the equipment.

SLCC. Pretty much any real welding school will teach you gas welding first before stick and then you will already be better at MIG.

well i dont know about uvsc and non students, but they have a welding class, they teach oxy, then stick, teach you alot about all of it i think, cutting with oxy cet, and have you do basiclly all the welds possible with both arc and oxy,
might be worth checking out.....
might cost to much also though

fortunately for me, I am a student there, and if I had the time I could just "tack" on another class for free (12-18 credits cost the same) unfortunately for me, between 15 credit hours, a full time job and a little family, I don't have much time for leisurely classes :-\
