We keep talking about this and kicking around the idea, and then it never quite gets going.

I have Mesha's old 220v buzzbox that I'm kinda having a hard time getting the hang of, and I'd love some pointers - youtube videos only go so far for me. I'm happy to play with MIG too, I have a Lincoln 100 with flux core that I'd love to be better with. I know there's others out there that want to play around and learn some basics, and at least a couple of guys that have said they'd be willing to be mentors, time allowing, so lets find a weekend that works for everyone and make this happen?

Right now I'll toss up Saturday January 17th. I'll offer my place as well, my garage is small but has 220 and could fit 4-5 guys and a project. I'm happy to schlep my crap elsewhere too, if anybody else wants to host.

I've been talking about this for a while, and still want to do one. Seems every time I get close a project pops up and I get busy. If you want some pointers I'd be happy to help out, in a class setting or one on one. I have a project in the garage right now, but if we wanted to do a small "class" of maybe 4-5 guys we could pull it off. If you wanted to bring your stick welder over, along with my 220 mig, and if one more guy has a 120v mig, it would give a great class with the different options that most of us would want to try. I should be good for the 17th as well.

I would definitely be interested if the dates worked. I don't have a welder in my shop, and I know they are a pain to transport, but I have a heated shop with 220 available and I can host lots of people if there is a ton of interest. I am located up North, so a bit of stretch for many on the forum that seem to be SL south.

I have no problem brining my welder, or having some guys at my place. I have two 220V outlets, one thats 50 amp and one thats 30 amp I believe. After next week kevin you are more than welcome to come over to my place any time this month, bring that stick welder over or I can head over to your place and we can weld up some scrap metal

Awesome, I was hoping there'd be folks interested. Either Josh or Bret's place would definitely be better than mine. Josh is closer to the freeway, I think Bret has more room, I can drive up to Kaysville too, so you guys fight it out :D.

I like Saturday Jan 17th, anybody have conflicts that day?

That'd be sweet. Absolutely no practical help for us mortals with mortal welding machines, but it'd be fun to play with!

I would like to get in on this. I have a mig with a bottle that will run off of 110 or 220. Millermatic I could bring. I'm also up north close to Moab cj5.

Ok guys, let me throw this out and see what you think. January 17, 10am at my house for an "introduction to welding" class. For this class I'd like to have guys that have ether just bought a welder or guys that have never welded, but are seriously considering getting into welding.

I will have my 250 amp mig for all to try out. I'd like Kevin to bring his stick welder if that's ok. And I'd love to have someone bring a flux wire feed 120v. If it has a gas set up that would be great too. We could hook it up to my bottle so you wouldn't need to drag it over. These three welders will give a new guy the best experience for starting out. Also, at this point you should be expected to donate consumables.

I live in magna off the 201 and 7200 w. So kind of in the middle of everyone. I have two workbenches to play on and should have plenty of room for 6 guys. Any more than that and this class will get very long while everyone try's the different techniques. Each guy that comes should bring safety glasses, leather gloves, a welding hat if you have one, and an understanding that there is a possibility of injuries. I would ask all to respect those around you, ect.

So post up if you can make it. If this goes well I'd like to do an intermediate and advanced class down the road as well.

Are you thinking more of a inner-shield josh? Or a dual shield? I have been wanting to pick up a inner shield wire fire some time to weld outside with no gas, might be time to get some.

Yeah, sorry. Flux core wire is what I want. I'd be very surprised if a new guy wanted to learn dual shield, although it is my favorite process for thick steel. I figured most guys just starting out would buy a flux machine so it would be good to have one here. Then if it also runs gas, the guys would be able to see the huge difference adding gas makes to the same machine.

Dual shield is by far the best for thicker steel. But if your machine is set right, you can get inner shield to run almost the same. I ran inner shield all the time in the field, so I learned to really like it. I'll look into a inner shield spool.

Sounds good to me. I'll bring the stick machine and the 110 machine with flux core (unless somebody else wants to bring theirs, in which case I won't).

What rod would be appropriate? I have 6013 1/8th, which I suspect is too thick for most projects by reason of I keep blowing holes in everything I try it on.

what size material do you keep blowing holes in? I can bring over some 3/16" and 1/4" plate which the 1/8" will be fine to use.

Put me down for this. I'll bring some scrape stuff I have laying around. I bought a Millermatic this year and have been playing with it. A get together like this would really help plus a great way to meet some off you and put faces to the names.
