i got a creat of axles and i dont know what the closed knuckle axle is? or what it is from? it looks like a d44 with the pas drop. i will try to get some pics

IH trucks used them until the early 70's. I don't know the cut over year for them. My 71 had closed knuckles and my 74 truck had open knuckles. I think Chevy and Dodge were about the same.

i had a '74 scout II with open and my little brother had a '74 with closed so i dont think there was a cut off year for IH

Jeeps had them as well. Wagoneers etc. Around '74 seems to be the cut-off for most makers.

Very true....my buddy picked up a 73 3/4 ton chev with closed knuckles, but opens were offered much earlier.
All solid axle Toyota's where closed knuckle even into the late 90's.........Birfields rock!

Still closed to this day in 07' solid-axle applications... Toyota obviously knows something
