Converting my samurai to electric power steering. Picked this up today from pick a part, out of a 2008 Nissan Versa. Not as ideal as hydraulic steering, but since I don’t have much room in my engine bay it’ll work good.

Is that a self contained setup, or does it need to be networked? Might be a neat option for a street rod that needs to be a bit cleaner than hydraulic lines would allow. Stuff that under the dash and it'd be good to go.

This one runs in conjunction with CanBus, but interestingly, without it, it goes into fail safe after 10 seconds that it doesn’t see contact with the cars ECU, and works just as it should if it were still in the car. Many guys are putting these setups into older hot rods. No need for any special controllers or anything, just a 3 wire hookup, power, ground, and key on power.

Got my steering shaft done. Need to fab up the frame mount next. I think I’m going to make it bolt on, so I can remove it if I need to.

I have been out of the metal shop for a while I had to get some Christmas gifts finished so today I started cleaning and putting tools away. I started on a new piece today so I will post some pics of where I'm at today. 20200105_144322.jpg20200105_153019.jpg20200105_153109.jpg

I put my 5700lb tow Cummings on my "10,000" lb chinese lift. Rotated the tires. Changed oil. Welded a small exhaust leak. Inspected front end for slight chimmy, hoping the tire rotation changes things. Topped off dif and tranny. I need to replace the pinion and tranny output seal if they have them in stock tomorrow.

I've been gathering parts to convert my wood burning stove out in my shop to burn waste oil. I also built a heat exchanger a couple weeks ago and installed it last week. Most of the parts I picked up cheap or free from other projects. I did buy the blower and a couple other items. I'll make a better video in the next week or so. This is burning used synthetic oil from my Tacoma.

You should box in the back of your our heat exchanger and run another blower motor to the back boxes in section.

The worktable on my 20-ton Nugier hydraulic press has been tweaked for the entire almost 30 years that I’ve owned it. Last night I decided to disassemble it, straighten the front and rear top edges and weld in some gussets. I doubt the gussets are necessary for the manner in which I use it but it was damaged while spending its first 10+ years in an industrial maintenance shop and I’ve just never addressed it after the initial rebuild of the pump and ram when I acquired it in the early 90’s.

After seeing how much force it took to straighten the lips of the work table I seriously doubt I needed to add gussets. I haven’t bent it any worse in the nearly 30 years I’ve owned it but while it’s apart on the bench I may as well add the gussets.

Stay tuned for when I have time to weld the gussets and reassemble.
