is a debate a debate until someone raises there voice? or is it still a debate?

to me they are the same. in both you are trying to get your point across to the opposition.

what is the difference to you?

Debate becomes an argument when: people stop listening to what the other person is saying, people start insulting one another, you just keep restating your belief without trying to explain yourself.

A debate is respectful. You're able to hear the other person's views without taking them as a personal offense, and vice versa. In an argument you're right and that's it you're not really interested in hearing what the other person has to say, you think your views are right-er and better than theirs. Condesention, stubborness, pride and lack of communication causes frustration which causes resentment, name calling, raised voices, etc.

Anything with you in it is an argument. :p

To me, a debate is a disscussion about a subject with different points of view that are backed by reason/logic/evidence. An arguement has no logic/reason/etc. "I'm right cuse I'm smarter"

If you can't back up your point of view, STFU.

(I seem a little grumpy today, sorry :( )

Oh yeah?! Well you must be unintelligent because you disagree! ;)

If someone were to be belligerent or belittle the opposition to their view, then that, in my opinion, would constitute an argument.
