What tire size to run on a cherokee with stock axles, and gears?

My Bronco II just blew up and i bought a Jeep cherokee? It has a 4.5 in lift and i am running 31's now.
I wouldn't mind triming my fenders i just want to make sure i wont do any damage to my jeep if i run too big of tires.
any thoughts?

I ran 33's with cut fenders and smaller lift. I Loved it. I ended up breaking the front spiders being heavy footed. Replaced with locker
I had the 29 spline Chrysler rear locked and never broke it.

If it's an auto transmission expect increased operating temps, you are asking a lot of it but upgrading the cooler is easy.

I ran 33s and eventually broke my spider gears also, but on the rear (dana 35 I believe it was). I threw in a lock-rite and was good to go...

33s are a good size for that setup. I run 35s on my front D30, but I have the updated shafts that use the 760 ujoint. The D35 rear split on me where the tubes went into the diff so I went to a Ford 8.8. Had to change gears to go to 35s and I am not heavy on the throttle.
