What was your first ride?

I guess this kind of goes along with my "Who are you?" thread. What was your first car or truck? Still have it? Loved it? Hated it?

For me......1970 Toyota Landcruiser that I started building when I was 15. Unfortunately, it was pretty much trashed and needed a lot more work than what I was skilled enough to do back then. Never even got it running. :(

So technically, that was first...but my '84 XJ with a ultra high powered AND carbed 2.8 V6 was my first real rig. It was big for back in the day ;)

1984 Honda CRX... a pile of junk I bought for $300 when I was 15. It ran for a couple months, then it died and I gave up on it, didn't even try fixing it. My mom donated it to the kidney foundation after a couple years of it sitting in her backyard.

Get a load of this...

When I was 16 years old I bought an 1988 Subaru with 88K original miles it was a bright red, (rare 2door) Hatch back, 4WD, 2inch lift, 15 inches total ground clearance, some big metric all season radials, offroad lights, CB, and the ultra custom factory white spokes (wait they all had those )

It was a fire road king, I wouldn't hesetate taking it on trails like Hells Revenge, and Poison Spider if I still had it...

I honestly miss that car :-\ If Subaru made a decent pickup I'd take one over my Toyota

First ride as 1966 EB (Bronco). Had it all of 4 months when I rolled it, end over end the first time, and 6 more turns sideways. : (

1986 Subaru 2dr hatchback 2wd. It always had an exhaust leak (you could get it fixed and two days later it would be leaking again  ) but that car went more places than most 4wd trucks go. I never got stuck in any amount of snow (we had some serious snow storms it lived though), the thing never left me stranded, and it never let me down. I had tons of fun with that POS (it was actually pretty nice for what it was):p. I loved that car but would never want to own anything similar again.

My first rig was a 1986 Cherokee with the kickass 2.8 V6. Never again would I own a piece of **** with that drivetrain.

1978 VW Type III (Squareback) Flat black with tons of rust... Rebuilt the engine more times than I care to count.. No heat in the winter.. Tons of airtime and dirt roads... Hated it while I had it but now it might be kinda cool in a nasalgic way.

My first car was a 1978 Pontiac Lemans (like a Malibu)
My first 4X4 was a 1969 GMC 3/4 ton. 400 SBC with a 4 speed. Someone had converted it from a 2WD by using 73ish Ford High Boy axles and a divorced 205. I knew so little about 4X4's that I had not idea until someone told me the diff was on the wrong side in the front:ugh: Then I started watching and noticed the difference.
The truck wheeled great and was alot of fun.

First car: blown 454 '69 Camaro. Sold it before I registered it, for college money and it was the right thing to do. Inherited from my uncle, so I sold it to the guy who helped us build it. He ran 10's in it. :D I drove it probably 10mi, most of them sideways down the country roads on those huge M/T psuedo-slicks.

First car I drove, and drove hard: 1981 AMC Concord wagon. Still miss this car. Affectionately known as the Blue Bomber, it was jacked up from rear overload springs installed by my friend Jack, so he could take it to UT. Car would dirt-track all over NY in the winter, and hold 6 bikes and riders for trail runs. Ran very well, leaked very little (for a Jeep product-- motor), and was an absolute blast.

First 4x4: 1973 GMC K20, with a built 396, 35's, and a 4spd. Went all over UT and all over the country with that truck, and had quite a few adventures with it. Had the ignition circuit rewired by Cale Yarborough's former crew chief in Spartaburg, SC, after the headers cooked everything but good.

Favorite vehicle so far: The Burb. Hands down the highest fun-to-cost ratio of the last 10yrs. Goes where you want to with a family inside, very stable up and downhill, and surprisingly flexy and nimble for such a huge pig.

My first car was a 1984 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, with the 305. My mom drove it off the showroom floor ten years before I inherited it. It was fast and could sure fly over the railroad tracks near my high school. But I hated that car. I wrecked it, fixed it, and we gave it to my aunt.

Next was a 1980 Honda Accord 4 door that I drove for years. It went everywhere I wanted it to. Including up Bartlett Wash with 4 mountain bikes on the top. I wish I still had it.

1949 cj2a I bought it for $800 when I was 15 and later drove it to school everyday. Never should have sold it. It was probably the funnest jeep I have ever owned.
