Definately go Warn. I'm running the i8000 with great success. Many pulls on it with a synth line and I'm loving it.

I've been hearing a lot of good things about the TMax winches too, but I have no first hand experience.

I would not buy anything but a warn they have have the best warranty I have ever seen. I took mine in because it just stoped working and they fixed it for free. I have had this winch for 6 years and it was old when I got it

That's the big seller to me. LOVE the warranty.

Does anyone know for sure where T-Max are made?
I've heard in Australia but I've also heard China.
Maybe different models?

made in China, imported/sold in Aussie land, now they're here

I have NOTHING to complain about with my TMax. (well, I'd love a lifetime warranty) It really seems like a well built winch and it pulls hard. Good speed and fairly safe. I've taken it apart a little ways and the components inside seem of quality construction. (quality wiring, connectors, etc.)

just a suggestion, and also keep in mind if your not going to use it that much, then that winch at costco is not a bad deal i think it is rated at 8000lbs and it is only 380 or 400, and i heard that it almost has the same serial number as a warn? but i have never compared.
now i dont personaly own one but i know that costco has the best warrenty avalable if anything ever brakes on it they just replace the whole thing, but who knows maybe you might be braking and replacing and it might become a hassle, oh well just putting a differend word out there, good luck

One thing to consider when buying a "value" winch... parts availability. With a Warn, Ramsey, Superwinch, even Milemarker... the parts are as easy as a phone call away (Warn being the most readily available IMHO).

Anything can break... I am a Warn fan through and through, but I have broken two of them, an XD9000i and my TI9.5, both covered 100% by the warranty. You might have to buy a winch in a couple years when something goes wrong and these "value" companies are no longer around. Might not happen, but there have been plenty of other winches to hit the market over the years... Sidewinders, Megawinches, Beavers, etc.

My bad... Sorry
So...the TABOR line is the same winch minus the warranty? Are parts interchangable?

The Costco return policy won't mean a damn thing when you're totally stuck in the middle of no where and your cheapy winch is dead.

Think about it... it's a WINCH. The only time you use it is when one of your buddies rigs needs to be uprighted after rolling, or when you are stuck door-deep in mud/snow, or to get you up some nasty hill to finish a trail. Why skimp & save a few dollars when winching is so critical? Buy a good one, the best you can afford.

I bought a Warn M8000 a few years ago, it's the cheapest 8000# winch that Warn makes... I bought that one because I'm cheap. I understand the money thing, but when it comes to a winch spend the extra money and get a quality product. Your buddies will thank you.

That's my opinion as well.... Customer service and warranty is everything. Not to mention, when your life depends on your winch not failing, Warn is a definate great buy! Granted, they are more expensive than some others, but you can't put a price on the above...
