I bought a bunch of stuff from novak to get my np435 in there and the hold up is on the CPS. I don't know what year my motor is. The jeep is a 91, but the motor is a newer swapped in 4.0 liter. How do I tell what year it is? I need to get the machine work done on the bell housing. thanks

p.s. I didn't swap in the motor.

Pull off the valve cover, the year should be embossed in between the 2nd and 3rd cylinder valves iirc

I've got a 93 Wrangler if I look up from below just under the exhaust manifold I can see a date on the block. My 93 wrangler has an engine that was made on 12/18/92. I'm guessing you should have something similar there, at least a year.

from what I searched it can be found by pulling the valve covers, but I would rather not.

numbers on my engine
53008405 D N 4.0L -4 4.9.91
the first number tells me it was between 91and 95
the letters I don't know
the 4.0L explains itself I don't know what the -4 means
the 4.9.91 looks like the date to me, but I didn't know engines were injected in 91 I was told this was a newer motor when I bought it. any ideas?

I think 91 was the first year of injection for wranglers...however my Jeep tech is a little rusty, It's been a while since I cared :cody: :D

...or maybe it was 92

looks like they were injected in 91. Maybe it isn't a newer motor.

91 was the first year for a 4.0 on a YJ... they were in XJ/MJ since 87. The 5200xxxx number you're looking at is a chrysler part number, and to my knowledge you can't decode those to figure out a year, so don't trust that.

I'd go with the 4.9.91 as a date and call it good.

X2.... '87-'90 XJ/MJ had the "Renix 4.0 (first gen Multi-Port Fuel Injection"
'87-'90 YJ 4.2L carburated I-6
'91-'95 YJ - High Output 4.0
'91-'01 XJ - High Ouput 4.0

Between the years of 1987-2006 over 5 million jeep 4.0L inline 6 engines were made and put into XJ Cherokees, MJ Comanches, YJ Wranglers (1991-1995), TJ Wranglers (1997-2006) (technically no 1996 model of wrangler,) ZJ Grand Cherokees (1993-1998?)
