I have a 86 sami and I am not sure what if I need a new clutch or if I have other problemss. When I go to accelerate my RPM's seem to go way high but the MPH are way low and I have been told it is a slipping clutch. But I can let the clutch out with it in gear and not touch the gas and the sami will jump and die as it should. any help on what the problem may be.

I still vote clutch. What happens if you try to drive off with the parking brake on? Give it some gas, see if the parking brake is stronger than yoru clutch.

Yep, clutch. Just letting out on the clutch and letting it die isn't much of an indicator. Not much power at thet point. Now when you get on the skinny pedal and start unleashing all them mean ponies......the clutch is weak, glazed, wore out.

Well it sounds like the vote is in and it is a clutch. I will go pick up a kit and change it out, and then try to contain my ponys!!!!!

Yeah it makes sense. At low RPM your engine stalls easily anyways. So to pop the clutch with low engine RPM would stall about any engine. If you want to give it the real test see if you can smoke the tires the next time you get a green light.

Wait this is a sami... no smoking tires for you! You are lucky to get across the intersection before the light turns red again

In all seriousness, try to see if you can peel out, give it some skinny pedal, lift the clutch fast. My guess is the engine RPM's will stay high while the clutch slips.

another way of telling the condition of a clutch is to be in first going about ten miles per hour and slowly press down the brake. it it dies soon its in operating condition. if you can almost stop or can stop its bad...... at least thats what i noticed in my ranger.
