Here's a buddy's buggy that is about that long, like 96" wide and about 18" off the ground with 40's...And it's crazy stable...

Yes, he does rub his belly. We don't have rocks here, so I don't know if it would be more of a hinderance or not... Greg would be better suited to answer this....

I think for a trail buggy for the type of terrain here, I would go somewhere in the 104-108 range unless you want to run gigantic tires, in which case longer is ok but those big tires don't work that well out here.

37" tires for know when there gone I might go to 39" . I like to do all of the hard stuff.
the reason for trying to go a little bit longer is this has to be a at least a four seater. the family likes to come wheelin. I am also thinking about the rear of the buggy being about 1.5" wider than a yj tub for a little more room for the kids. what do you think? I am running full width axles.

Im on 44" Pitbulls with a wheelbase of 122" My frame is about 26" from the ground.

I love my wheelbase. I havent gotten into anything where I wish it was shorter. Just have to take some interesting lines sometimes. But.....I do get high centered all the time. My skid plate is mangled. I think Im going to raise the Scout about 4 inches to fix this problem.

When I start my new project Im shooting for 118-120" wheelbase but its going to be on 52" tires

With 37s that might be a little long. 39s you should be fine. I was at 118" when I was running 39 tsls and liked it.

I say make the buggy to fit your needs. Driving styles can change accordingly

thanks. what do you think about the width in the rear being the same as a yj tub

I'd go as wide as possible, as that is directly portioned to how stable it will be. IMO a YJ tub is pretty narrow, so I'd add a few inches... I like my 83" outside of tire to tire and have yet find a situation where it was too wide or even wished it was wider. The cops don't like it though, because the tires stick out of the flares about 6". I'm low enough that mud flaps would only be about 2-4" long to cover the top half of the tire, but the flare part....

I had my buggy at 81" wide and then went down to 78" and I really liked it at 78". 3" doesn't seem like much, but it just felt more maneuverable and seemed to fit on obstacles better. My current rig is 77" wide and I wish it were more like 75" just so the tires didn't stick out so far from the body asking for a ticket. It also turns like the titanic, but the front spool and steering stops aren't helping me there.

If I ever get $$ together to put together a buggy, it will be about 105" 4 seater and probably about 78" wide on 40's. I think that is ideal for Utah wheelin.

I had a 4runner that was 114"s long for wheelbase, and ran on 37's. I loved the way it wheeled.. I believe my crossmember skid plate was something like 22-24" off the ground..

Lemon Joy is a 4 seater and she's at a blissful 113 inches. That magical number was determined by having the tires hit the rocks first and the rear to come off the rock last. It all comes down to opinions really and you know what those are like.....

That's shorter than I would have guessed you'd like... Interesting.

I don't want to go any shorter than this Blazer, which I think is 109??? but it's also full-bodied. With a buggy and a lower COG I could see going shorter...

with the room I need for my kids I think I am going to put the wheelbase about 112" I hope that I am not disapointed. brocomama what is the hight of your skid plate and do you have problems with high centering?

I think the main reason to go super long is to increase climbing ability or run huge tires. My buggy was 107 and would climb pretty much anything I pointed it at. All the comp rigs are 98-103 and they climb. I also don't think big swampers (or anything) work very well out here. I'm sure they're great in the midwest or back east, but they just don't seem to work as well here IMO.
