Wheel Polishing....Aluminum..

So, ya I didn't get the chrome plating like I should have.. my rims are about 2 years old now, and I didn't do much in the way of cleaning this year.


Anyone know a place that polishes them really good? Or a fool proof method of cleaning them up? They are not terribly dirty just spotted and it doesn't look like its in the metal. Any ideas you have let me know!

Elbow grease and your choice of Al polish. Get one of those power balls and a good corded drill an go to town. Make sure they aren't coated in plastic because you will end up having to sand off the plastic coat then start polishing.

Depending on your motivation you can start with different grits of sandpaper and work your way up then seal it with a good automotive wax...aluminum is either your best friend or greatest enemy depending on your ability to maintain it!

I would suggest starting with soda blasting then polishing them it will cut down the polish time dramatically.

What would soda blasting 4 wheels run? I have some that could use a good cleaning but the clear is starting to fail...

on aluminum it will take off all the clear and make it so they are ready to easily be polished or powder coated the price really depends on the wheel if you can send me some pics of them I can get you a price. no problem. The pictures in my sig. are aluminum that was in a fire.

Just on the side. I like my junk to look as good as it can. I've done detailing for a while....
Too bad you can see right where I hit the tires while polishing

If you don't want to do it yourself-hit up Metal Masters. They are economical and the wheels will look better than brand new.

Came across this thread a few weeks ago when I was looking for options on getting my wheels polished.

I've had the wheels (Mickey Thompson Classic Locks) since early '08 and have driven them through three winters now. Not such a good thing that was. I recently found a set of tires to put on my factory wheels for use in the winters to come.

I took up the suggestion of Metal Masters and dropped the wheels of there last week and Just picked them up today. They look fantastic, especially considering what they looked like prior. They were pretty bad. Should have taken a before pic, but here is one now:
