My inlaws will be in from CA, and they want to go wheelin with me, so I want to take them out for a fun ride on Saturday. I'm thinking I want to hit Forrest lake, but I can be persuaded otherwise. I like Mineral Basin too, so whatever. i'm also open to snakes. It just depends on who can come, and what's worth doing. I've done snakes the past 5 times though, and I kinda need a break, so I was hoping for some AF canyon fun. Does anybody know of any other good trails like Mineral Basin?

scratch that, the family won't want do drive all the way out to price. We zuk guys have decided on Forrest lake. It'll be lots of fun, and depending on the time of day, we'll either roast some mallows or have lunch up there. anyone and everyone's invited.

I might be interested in coming. I'm not familiar with that area but it looks pretty close and I need some exposure to the different local trails. I'm out of the South Salt Lake Area (Just moved here from St.Louis two months ago) with a Stock F-350. It get's around alright but flexing can cause some problems. I would think I can do anything a stock Sami can =)

great, you're welcome to come. I don't know if you'll make it, but you probably will if you've got experience driving off road. The reason stock samis make it is because they're small, and we have winches :D . I don't know much about bigger trucks, but if you don't mind a little body damage, i say to go for it. I'm sure others will chime in and let you know if it's doable in your vehicle. Either way, there's tons of fun trails up in AF canyon, and it's maybe 30-40 minutes away from you.

We're planning on meeting around 6PM, after BYU wins the football game.

hopefully the storm won't rain on the parade. I may be interested in coming, too. I don't know if your stock f350 would make it up without help, but with a tow strap and "stacking rocks," you can make it up anything.

How intense is the area? The truck will climb loose rock I have a really hard time walking down... But a tired L/S in the rear and open front mean problems while flexing - I think the outrageous wheel base helps with a lot of obstacles that give smaller trucks a hard time But can also mean death for Drive shafts and exhaust that'd I'd rather not repair. I hesitate to Destroy the body on rocks... some Scrub-Oak Pin striping is fine and will be in good company.

A crew cab is kinda long for Forest Lake, if you were sitting higher you'd be fine. Traction isn't really an issue on that trail, any 4x4 would be fine.... I do the whole trail in 2 hi. There are two spots you would for sure put rockers on rock.

we're going, storm and all. the only part i'd be worried about is that 30 foot stretch right after you cross the river. That might be hairy if it's muddy and slippery. we'd love to have ya pelygroso, you might want to put the top on though.

there's a guy on here who wants to see if any of those going want to help work for an hour. they need some logs in front of some illegal trails, and a fence post needs to be secured.

i have tickets too. I'm not sure if we're going before or after the game (so far we're planning on after). You'll be able to hang just fine, we can get stock rigs through the trails. How capable is your rig? it can't be bad if you need more clearance under that mount. We also know zuks pretty well (check us out on zukiworld --> forum --> Zuktah), and maybe we could help you finish your rig in time.

hey PSD, you can at least come with us up to the trail head. There's some more mild wheeling just past the lake. It's more like dirt fire road that go up on top of the hills. Sometimes you'll drive over a log or a big rock, but nothing that would warrant body damage. I agree with the other guys that you'd want a lift, or not care about body damage. That's a big rig to take up some narrow parts. I'm not saying it can't be done, and i'm not insulting your rig, because i know it can go places mine can't, but I don't think this would be the best trail to mess it up on. Snakes would be more worth the body damage.

I just finished my yota swap, and it took me forever. I still have a million small things to work out, but for the most part it works really well. It's nice to not have to worry about breaking axle shafts now that i've got toys. I could use a header for a little more power around town and on the freeway, but the gearing isn't too bad.

Okay, the only trail I'm familiar with around here is Ward-Canyon. I went from the parking lot, left and all the way up -- although I did go left at the pathfinder, With a fair percentage of the pathfinder in the back -- with pretty much no trouble. I didn't use any of the easy routes... Anyone familiar with that area care to compare them? I'd like to go but if I'm going to end up hopelessly "stuck" (And by stuck I mean choice between moving or massive body damage) or on some bypass I might just go back up to Ward Canyon.

the body damage won't be massive, it isn't a very hard trail, there are just some big rocks you've got to make it through, and since you're so long, your rockers are going to be on rocks. THey'll dent the rockers, but they won't kill your truck. I honestly woldn't recommend it in that rig, but you're welcome to ride with us in our vehicles if you want to see how bad the trail is. I think the first little bit is the toughest, so you'll get an idea right away.

ok, i KNOW this isn't af canyon, but I think these pics represent the level of difficulty pretty well. I can't remember it being any harder than these pics, althoug it is more narrow, so you don't have the choice to go around the rocks (especially in a fullsize)

I have to admit that I'm not that scared by those; for better or worse... I'll prolly count on coming out and I might just hang out at the back for a bit. If the hardest stuff is right up front I should be able to back down if it's too hairy I'm not green... Been wheeling for years with trucks that are way to big for the trail and this is hardly a show truck. My Rockers are actually pretty high (26" I believe) but Transfercase and Cat are considerably lower... those are what I'm worried about.
