Wheeling destination, Sand Hollow

Hello all.
My name is Levi, I am from Northern nv.I can't honestly say I have been lurking, I just sort of jumped straight to register.
I figured I would post up in my quest for more information on Sand Hallow. A group of friends and I are planning on heading your way in mid April. We are in seek of good hard wheeling. We usally go to the hammers, but this year we are changing things up a bit.
Our group is a range of ages and types of people but one thing we all share is our passion for extreme wheeling, and respecting trails.
As of now there are eight of us (hope that number holds true on departure day) we all have built rigs and have been wheeling a while.
I thought I might poke around a bit on info for trails, and camping in the area. I don't intend to ask with out offering info in exchange here. We also have some wonderful wheeling here as well.
I hope I worded everything the right way. I'm not real great at just striking up conversations with people I don't really know!
Any info would be appreciated at this point. Thank you all for your time.

i have been to Sand Hollow many times, it is by far my favorite place, mostly due to the proximity of all the trails, i am sorry i do not know the extreme trails because i don't have a rig that can handle it, be patient, other will post soon.

welcome to RME!

Welcome Levi. I live in the area around Sand Hollow and love it. I usually am doing the 7-8/10 trails. I could show you those but we do have quite a few local people with buggies that I am sure wouldn't mind showing you around. A Local club here is the Desert Roads and trail Society or Desert rats. They have a website and a facebook page which would be another good place to start. This is also the group that is currently in charge of the Winter Convention we have here every January. You have been wise to seek the Sandhollow area as it is a wonderful place to wheel. PM me if the time is closer and you have not found the resoures you are looking for.
So the part where we wheel is BLM land. But there is a statepark on the other side of the road that has full camping amenities as well a dry spots to camp with no trailer hookups. It also has acess via a tunnel that connects to the wheeling area. There are other public non fee ways of entering the BLM area that is free of charge. Some where on this website I believe are some gps maps of the area trails also but as you know it is usually best to have a local show you around.

Thank you very much.
I will go on FB next and do some more research. So I was not aware that all the trails are not in the park. So most of us are in Cabovers but I have an rv. Is camping at the resivoir our best bet? I don't mind dry camping, are the camp sites spread out?
I just Googled wheeling sand hallow, and came across your guys site. I do appreciate your guys help, it puts my mind at ease having a little insight from locals, as it is around 9 hours from us, not to mention quite a financial journey collectively between all of us. Thank you again

If you want to be as close as possible to the trails then Sandhollow would be your best place to camp. Not any of the trails lie within the state park but are in the dunes and rocks connected to the park. Also check the state parks websites for group camping ect. Will probably need to make reservations soon. Options are available for hookups and dry spots.

Kmboren, thanks again for all your info. I will be calling the park today for reservations.
Just to be clear, can we drive our rigs from camp to the trails?

Yes, drive under the road through a tunnel.
The camping is pretty decent at the reservoir, from primative on the beach, to dry camp spots and full hookups... And bathrooms with showers.
What are the dates you're going? I'm usually wheeling down there every couple months...

We will be there from April 13th-17th
Probably show up Wednesday afternoon and leave Sunday morning.
It would be great to meet some people while we were there. Our group is made up of some good guys that I feel lucky to call my friends.
