Ok guys I really need you help. I'm trying to find a decent deal on installing a locker into my jeep. I'm trying to get it done for a trail next month but funds are a little tight and not to sure if I can find a place that will even install it for me due to legality issues.

Here's the story, I tried to get a spartan locker installed a little while ago but it wouldn't happen do to having the stock trac loc. Now I have located a open case with a spartan installed already that I'm picking up today.

If I can't get the physical help can I at least get some insight on the job? I know typically locker and gear setups are difficult but am I to have all those issues since I'm not changing gears? In my mind it's played out that I just slide the axle shafts out, pull the carrier, take off the ring gear transfer to the new case and reinstall everything. I'm sure I'm wrong but, HELP... Thanks.

First make sure the carrier is the same size for you gear ratio, example 4:56 and below gears.

Second, carrier bearing shims can be preesed on before the bearing or external with a thick shim. If the shims are pressed on first before the bearing, that can make a fun time pulling bearings. Every carrier is slightely different on width.

Back lash setup and you should be good.

I know six states in ogden will do the install. I did have a bad experience the last time I had work done there but the will even warranty their work on the parts you have.

With all the problems I had with them they still fixed it at no extra charge to me. I want to say the labor on a carrier install was $250 plus parts. The would want a master install kit in order to guaranty their work though.

The amount of work is exactly the same as changing gears. No two carriers are the same. It will have to be completely re-installed.
