I'm going to have some custom exhaust built for a 97 grand cherokee. Has to be custom because of the custom long arm rear suspension. My question is where should I dump the end? The guy thats going to build it mentioned just turning it down in front of the gas tank, is that legal? will that heat the tank? Will fumes come into the back of the jeep? My kids will be in the back alot. should I have it ran to the back? looking for your thoughts, thanks.

I would run out out close to the factory location. A good exhaust shop will be able to sneak it through the suspension cycle. I think on an SUV its not allowed to exit underneath.

if it were a pick up you could dump it anywhere cab back but on an suv it has to go out a side or the rear. but like Chevy mentioned, most exhaust shops can snake it threw the suspension cycles

Yes, it needs to exit out the rear. And trust me you want it to, I had an exhaust leak that was bad enough to breathe in and couldn't open the windows at low speed, I can't imagine how bad it would be with all of the exhaust gas coming up.

like it was said, it need to exit out the back of the vehicle. You can probably get away with it exiting out one of the sides, as long as it is behind them.
