Where would you live?

If I could live anywhere it would be in a cabin in the mountains all by myself. Ideally one that gets snowed in, in the winter  (I'm serious though :D)

I have wanted to do that for 20 yrs or so. Unfortunately the wife doesn't think so highly of that idea.:ugh:

I won't discourage any of you in doing this (i pretty much did this for the 5 years I lived in Utah), but it is a very different lifestyle. There is no 'run to the store' stuff. You have to be organized and if you forget to pick something up, it waits until the next time.

To the OP, if you are talking about bringing your family out here (sounds like it with the talk of kids and whatnot), choose based on that, not on anything else. I'd look over on the east side of the Wasatch front - Park City, Heber, Kamas, Oakley). I don't know anything about schools, but all of these places are far enough away from Salt lake to feel a bit isolated, but not so far as to make it inaccessible when needed.

If it were me, I'd live in Ferron, or Orangeville. Manti La Sals to the west and the San Rafael to the east. (And Moab just a litte so east ;)) And price , just due north, has got to be the best access to anywhere in utah in any direction.

I am also very jelous of your tough choice. :hickey:

I'd base it on kids too...in fact, I do. I really like living in Draper, mainly for the kid/school thing, and for convenience. I like Heber/Kamas area, but you're an hour from I-15 and access to points north and south. I also think the Coalville/Wanship area is pretty (our family cabin is near there).

I like the Ferron idea. I'd like Moab too, if the family would do it.

Ephraims pretty cool, maybe im partial. Hard to find work, sounds like it dont matter in your case. surrounded by mountains and canyons. not far from Moab,(3 hrs) Cedar City,(2.5 hrs) SLC (2hrs) Cheap living expences, small enough to enjoy yet big enough to have a Walmart. one stop light in town. and home of Snow College.

I love Ephraim, I've been trying to get back down for about a year now. Lots of houses for sale down there now too.

OK, I have no idea what the first sentence means! I really like MOAB and I would go down there a couple times each month when I was living in Draper. I always stayed at Red Cliffs or the Holiday Inn and the only incursion into the town of MOAB I really made was to Pasta Jays. :D

About once per month I'll have to drive around the state to visit accounts in Salt Lake, Logan, St George etc. and twice per year I'll have to travel to all the rockies ID, MT, WY and CO. I know it makes the most sense to live off I-15 but MOAB is REALLY off I 15.

As far as small towns, at this point I don't care because it will be just me for the first year or so. In the next year I'll have to buy something and there will be children so all of the adult considerations like school systems access to healthcare and whatnot.

I am looking to rent something in 2008 and I have not seen any rental properties in MOAB. I am going to be in UT during the last week of Jan and I am driving in from CO so my plan was to dip down into MOAB and check it out.

Thank you

Sorry about that first sentence, that was me just being myself. My main point was that I would choose Moab, but I love small town life. As far as rentals go, I would call some of the realty places and see what they have available. Whenever I've looked into rentals, I've never had any luck with the newspaper, only with realty and rental companies.

Where are you working in Colorado?

I'm curious about your work, with all this traveling and choice of where to live... if you don't mind, what do you do?

The short answer is; I will be working as manufacturers representative for a CO based firm. My territory for home brands will be UT and So ID and all Rocky Mountain states for the automotive brands.

I have been traveling to UT on business trips for years and when I had the opportunity to relocate I jumped all over it.
When I lived in Draper in 2007 I was sent by the company I was working with for nearly a decade; JL Audio. When I was cut in 2008 I moved back to FL but have spent most of 2008 trying to find the right opportunity to get back. This seems to be the right fit.

If you see a Silver KJ with an ARB winch bumper, custom steel rear bumper and roof rack, snorkel, lifted with MT-Rs on the road during the last week on Jan, that's me.

I have traveled extensively to every state in the union and I feel UT is the best place to live and I am VERY happy I am coming back.

I think I'd go with Richfield if I could live anywhere in the state and not have to worry about a job. It's right in the middle of the state so it's not far from the Swell, Moab, St George or I-15. There is good wheeling nearby and the winters are milder than Salt Lake.

I would live in Price, if I had any choice. Great wheeln, decent size town, but not big. Within two hours of Moab or SLC.

I do alot of work in Richfield, my shops 20 minutes away. And yes Richfield would be a good place to live. Some good rockcrawling and ATV trails and all the conviences of the City without living in the city. Richfield has a Offroad shop, Hippies, Midstate Jeep Parts and there is a rockcrawl coarse at the fairgrounds to play on.
