Which Jeep do I use to tow the tent trailer?

Here is the situation. We have a tent trailer (2000lb dry) that we will be towing to Moab and other places we like to go wheeling. We have two Jeep Wranglers, '05 Rubicon Unlimited, 5spd, 6" long arm lift with 35" tires and a '06 Rubicon Unlimited, auto trans, 2" lift running 31" tires but plan to lift it like the '05 and run 35s. The Unlimiteds have a tow rating of 3500lb so we well with in that range.

So the question, which Jeep do I put the trailer wiring in? The one with the auto trans or the manual?

Both. Trailer wiring isn't any big deal. Especially after you do it once.

Brett (I'd rather wheel the auto.)

Are you running the stock 4.10 gears in both?
The manual (05') has 4.88 gears and the auto has 4.10s for now because I am only running 31s on it but when I do the 6"LA and 35s I will gear with either 4.88s or 5.13s, not sure what is best for an Auto.

does one have more cup holders than the other?

Remember they are both Rubicon Unlimiteds so they are the same wheelbase of 103" and same number of cup holders.

I guess I was just wondering if the Auto will handle it better or manual. I would need a tranny cooler for the auto.

I'd say thay until you get the lift on the '06, that would definitely be more trailer friendly. Probably wouldn't be as good on the trails though once you got there.

i'd say wire both of them, since it isn't too bad to do and then compare them as to which tows it better.

I think that is good advice and I can switch the controller to which ever one I like. For now I think I will go with the '06 because all it has is a 2" lift.

Do I need a tranny cooler or are they beefy enough that it won't matter tugging a 2000-3000 lb trailer?
