Which tires for the sand? Worn out POS or new sharp treads?

We're going to Little Sahara this weekend. Should I run my worn out krawlers or my like new MTRs?
It seems like I heard the old nearly bald tires work better.

as far as "skinny pedal" is concerned: in sand speed is your friend. "when in doubt....throttle it out" and when you get going that magic speed where your wheel speed matches the ground speed. it is a fun, floating sensation that will put a smile on your face. speed a lot of times is the only thing keeping you from getting "up to your axles" stuck

which part of Little Sahara? on those tires stay away from "out-back" (behind) the mountain. it is steep bowls that even high hp sand rails with paddles get stuck or tumble on. white sands is more rolling dunes. or to the right of the mountain is pretty good for trucks too.

We're staying at the Oasis CG. I'm not sure where we'll be. Brian Page is bringing out the racing Bronco for its first time in the sand since its restoration. Probably in the Sand Mountain area Sunday. So far we have a mix of Broncos and quads going.

Must be a different family.. you are talking blasphemy they are a Ford family from way back, It's Brain Page with the Blue E.B and of course that white one.
That's is a sweet ride, supercharged straight six with a chain drive tcase it was a pre-release Bronco.

ok, so which tires did you end up going with for that trip?

i am a skat-trak dealer and i might just take a pair of older tires and have them turned into paddles for any time i decide to go to the dunes. i'll probably do a pair of 33s because with the cups on them they will be like 38"-40"

Be carefully you don't sand blast all your paint off behind the back tires. I learned that the hard way on an old truck running 40" paddles and over 500 horses

I went with the worn out ones and they worked great. No I find myself scanning KSL for a used paddles too. The worked great, that is until I jammed up my back drive shaft. It didn't have enough room for compression by about a half inch. When I landed real hard it took out the u-joint on one end and the cv and yoke at my t-case. What a blast though, now we are talking about going back out Thanksgiving weekend. Brian didn't get everything done he'd hoped for on the racing Bronco so he ended up bring his blue one with paddles on it. That was fun to see but he'd never run them on it before and didn't realize how bad the axle wrap would be. He took out a set of springs and a drive shaft too.

why buy used? i can get them made pretty cheap. and axle wrap is insane with paddles in the sand. but they hook up amazingly

You don't have to talk much to talk me into some new ones. The used ones I've seen go on KSL seemed to be real pricey.
