Planning to run the White Rim Trail in the coming weeks... I've don't both ends (in & out of the trail) but never the middle section, nor done it all in one sweep.

Which campspots would you pick versus others?

Which hikes would you do again?

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

TIA

Two summers ago we did the whole trip starting from the Shafer switchbacks. We camped at the Murphy camp. The site we had was not one of the better ones there but it was still good. I think campsite A is the one with the best views. As for hikes we did some of the Murphy hogback. It was OK but I probably wouldn't do that again. I wish we had done that one on the south end of the trail. White Crack trail I believe. I'll definitely do that one when I go back. If you happen to be interested in Fort Bottom, that one didn't really look appealing to me either.

How many nights are you staying? If only one, Murphy's Hog Back is about in the middle. That's where we staying last summer. We went in Shaffers on that trip, but I've been been through both ways. As for hikes? We didn't in the summer, and I've been on bikes during the other trips, so hiking wasn't on the agenda. I think there's a pretty cool one not long after the bottom of Shaffers. It goes down to the river.

If it would have been cooler, the boys and I would have liked to climb/hike a LOT more than we did. I liked the Murphy's Camp. Boy was that a climb!!!

I appreciate all the feedback

We are planning on 3 days, 2 nights... that should give us plenty of time to soak up the area. Thanks again!

Leaving Friday am...

Still havn't decided which direction we are going to do it (CW or CCW), I guess it depends on the permits we get. I'm thinking Airport/Taylor or Goosberry/Taylor (and opposite if going CCW).

Whats up with Mineral Bottom & Hellroaring Canyon? Worth exploring? Lathrop? Horsethief Spring?
