Just looking for options.

I need one side of a dana 60 front axle housing cut down 5"

Who can do it? Whats the going rate?

Thanks!

You can do it, that way it's free aside from the shaft resplining. :) James K did a little writeup a while back, you should search it and see if it's easy enough for you to consider.

I found enough, should be easy enough.

Im thinking manual pipe cutter, clean cut with no shavings inside.

Then remove chunk of tube from the C.

Set C in place, and weld it up. Ill use the 480 mig at work, should burn in well enough.

I wouldn't worry about shavings inside the axle tube, it's not sealed in any way from sand/dirt/water/anything else, plus it's easy enough to clean out if you care. I don't know how a pipe cutter would deal with 1/2" wall thickness, either. :eek2:

In the end though, it doesn't really matter how you cut it, as long as it gets cut. :D

Yeah I was thinking about that. Stuff in a rag and chop it.

Seeing how the C is a press fit on the tube. The straightness of the cut really doesnt matter. Chop the tube, pound on the C, and weld it up.

Just make sure you get your caster matched to the other side before you get the knuckle on too far... Other than that, it really is a simple deal.
