I've got a Marlin 917VS. It's a great little gun. I went shopping for the Savage, but after seeing both side by side, I thought the Marlin had better fit and finish. If you buy one, plan on going with more scope than you originally thought. They are pretty darn accurate out to 200+ yards. I mounted a Nikon 3-9X40 scope on it, and it's just not enough. I'm looking to replace it with something in the 14 or 16 power range.

I have the Remington semi auto... A lot of fun;) I have yet to find anything I dislike. A few of us went in on a group buy and we all love them. Patriot Firearms...

I bought marlin 22lr stainless steel finsih with wood

I had walmart price match and got it for $130 now i see there close to $200. Ive never shot it but i agree fit and finish is better than the savage i looked at in .22 cal. Ive gotten back into pellet guns again and bought .22 RWS 34 at midsouthshooterssupply.com $159 thats a fine bargain.

out of all the ones i have been looking at i like the marlin 917 VR i just wish that the mags. held more rounds.

The Marlin holds 2 more than the Savage does. I just bought a couple of extra mags, load 'em up, and keep them in my pocket. The mags are the same ones as the 22mag, so you can get them at Walmart or wherever for like $11.

Well I dont have the 17 but I just picked up a .243 and took it out this weekend with some of the hornady vmax moly bullets:D sweet:D I am now hooked!!! Those little guys spit out a 58 grain bullet at 3750fps and not to mention the carnage that the VMAX tip does to your target, I shot a can at 75-80 yards and the freakn thing exploded and i wasnt really expecting that but it was sweet, HIGHLY reccommended. Also you can use it for deer and other game. The bullets were like 17 a box at sportmans and I think 15 at cabelas cheaper than the regular rounds from what I saw.
