Say I had a side gear (diff) type of thing that I wanted built. Anyone here ahve the capability to make one?

The piece would kind of look like the ones in this picture. They are the pieces on either end of the locker package.

Trying to make it fit a different application?? Mass produced or a single set?

The Advance Manufacturing Lab at the U of U could make them, but cost is very dependent on the quanity & material...

Mike @ Summit Machine would be my first call...

What I've noticed, is the RUbicon locker those are what fail - all of the splines on the outside of the peice. New lockers are $500+. I have 2 good lockers here each with that gear stripped. I say good because if I had that gear, these would be servicable. I have several that had those broken so long and driven on, they have other problems now. Currently the Rubicon locker is only sold as a complete assembly. Spicer should be carrying it shortly, as they do have a part number for it but aren't producing/selling it to the public yet.

So I would like it built with a high quality material so it won't happen again - maybe a 1541HT or ? I'd like to know about what it would cost before I even decided if it was worth persuing. You know, if it's $50-100 each, then we might have something to talk about. If it's $300 for one, then probably not. As typically when the Rubicon locker fails, it's replaced with an ARB or Detroit, since I'm in the off road business and not warranty repair like the dealers woudl have.

I would be concerned if you upgraded the material on one gear, but not the one it mates with, you will have a problem. Now the OE piece is matted to a stronger/harder piece you will create wear and a greater possibility of breaking the OE piece.

That's true... I honestly wouldn't care if it was made with the same material, at least then it would be servicable, ya know?

Have ya seen a picture of a True Trac? It has the same gears riding around it. ...See the six cylinder gears?

The rear Rubicon locker looks like a cross between a TrueTrac and No Spin, but it's pnuematically controlled like an ARB.

Contact STAK, yeah, the transfer case guys. They have the ability to make gears. I just spoke with them a great deal at All 4 Fun in CO.
