Who owns a new Jeep Cherokee?

Where is Dempsey?

I'm right here. ;) One of the many things I enjoy about working at Doug Smith is my exposure--I can sell new Jeeps (and Chryslers and Dodges), new Subarus, new Kias, plus a whole assortment of used vehicles. I'll be glad to keep answering questions for you, Jack.

What about the i4 in the Cherokee.

Any reliability information available?

The Cherokee's "Tigershark" 2.4L engine is basically the second generation World Engine, which debuted back in 2007 and has since nearly become Chrysler's only domestic four cylinder engine. The Tigershark bottom end is pretty much carry-over; most of the updates for the new generation involved valvetrain upgrades and improvements, redesigned intakes, etc. From what my shop advisors say, we don't see many major problems on these engines. If you are satisfied with the power output, I see no reason to stop you from buying it.

Well it looks like we are stuck with the Jeep which I guess is not that bad. The salesman at LH Miller used car lot said if we did not like the color or anything just bring it back and we will find the right car for you and I believed him. Well we went back and they wanted to give us $21 k on the car we bought 2 days ago for 23.5 k. I really liked the 2015 Subaru outback but the price was $26k and did not care too much for the 2013. Is it possible to trade my Jeep for an outback that has all the bells and whistles but older. I have the Jeep Latitude, 2015, 25k miles, Grey, VIN 1C4PJMCB5FW672450. Let me know and thanks in advance.

Dempsey not included, I hate car dealers. If it's not in writing, you are usually screwed believing anything they tell you.

The key phrase is "if it is not in writing". It was the used car lot across from LH miller Jeep Dodge in Sandy. The salesman was Marcus. We have complained to the manager and are now preparing a letter L H Miller Jeep.

I am very sorry to hear this, Jack. An all-too-common sales tactic is to say what Marcus did, just to get you to sign the papers and take the car home. Even though I did not do this to you, it infuriates me that it happens. At this point, you are essentially at the mercy of their management.

For the curious, I do experience similar situations on occasion. For example, last month a customer bought a brand new Dart that they thought was exactly what they wanted. Two days later, I got a call--she had changed her mind on a major option group that her car lacked. I was able to track down a car with everything she really wanted, and had them come in and swap cars that evening with no hassle. These sorts of issues can be worked out if the dealer is willing.

Back in 2001 I bought a brand new Cherokee from LHM. I had test drove one and really liked it. I liked everything but I wanted fog lights. Sales manager says I have this exact one with fog lights, we'll do it for $xx,xxx (don't remember the price, not important though). Great, get it ready and we can go sign papers. By this time it's after 10pm, we had been there all-day. We sign papers, drive it home. We're happy. The next day we are out driving and I realize it doesn't have cruise control, the one we test drove did. I go back in that day and bring it to their attention. I started off politely, thinking it was an honest mistake. Sales manager was a complete jerk about. We go back and forth, it escalates. He's trying to get me in to his office instead of on the sales floor...hell no, we can take care of this right here. Finally after a lot of arguing, he finally gives in and I they agreed it was their mistake and they install cruise control on our new jeep.

A few weeks later, I get the survey in the mail on how did they do from the mothership. Well, I filled it out honestly, didn't give them all high marks, gave explanations for my ratings, etc.

It's now been 6 months, we're on a trip heading back from Vegas. We're in between Vegas and Mesquite, it's 115* degrees outside and the transfer case locks up solid (at freeway speed  ). We call the roadside service that came with the Jeep, get it towed in to the Jeep Dealership in St. George. They confirm the t-case is toast and they need to get a new one, it'll be a couple days. Cool, just get me a loaner car (part of my original agreement was a 5 year warranty, Sales Mangers exact words were, "if anything ever happens and your Jeep needs to be repaired, you'll be taken care of. This includes loaner car, all costs, etc) and I'll be on my way. Nope, no loaner car included. Call the Sales Manager and ask him WTF! Tells me, well since you didn't give me perfect marks on your survey, I'm not doing anything for you and hangs up. Found out that since they were (are?) a 5 star dealer, anything less than that really dings them.

Moral of the story, I'll never buy another vehicle from the LHM group. Sorry for your frustrations Jack, buying cars shouldn't be that way.

I've bought several vehicles from dealers since then, three from Karl Malone, and I've been satisfied with each experience. KM was by far the best experience each time by far.

I've bought 3 cars through LHM, everyone ended up being a big mistake. Never again

I bet I've bought 3 or 4 through them but like ANY dealer, know what you're buying, assume the worst until proven otherwise and ALWAYS cover your own ass in the deal. The dealership is in business to make money not do you a favor. If you let them take advantage of you, MOST will.

I tried buying a few cars from LHM but they are total jerks with horrible service. Bought one from Dempsey, I'd buy another from him in a heartbeat. Also had really good experiences with Henry Day Ford in WVC.

LHM and Brent Brown are two of the worst car buying experiences I have ever had. Got totally screwed on two cars from them, LHM said yeah in a year come back and we will trade you up no problems:mad: Never happened. Finally got rid of the first mistake, and decided to go to Doug Smith and check out the Outbacks cause I have always wanted one. And I can truly say that buying a car from Doug Smith is how buying a car should always be. Didn't have the one I wanted in the right color, instead of selling some random other color they said give us till Monday(this was Wednesday night) got a call the next day and was told they would have that car in that color there on Friday by 5. Love them and will honestly never go to another dealer.

Worst thing is, that like a months later some idiot in a parking lot swiped the side a drove off I even parked way out and left two spots on each side open. So mad about that.

For me the LHM salesman was making promises he couldn't keep when I went in to buy my truck. Sales manager called me the next day and told me they couldn't do that deal and blablabla. I called Ken Garff, told them I HATED LHM and would love to buy a truck from them for that amount (which was a great deal) and they said sure, come on in. Bought my truck that day. That was 4 years ago and it still makes me happy to think about it.

I posted this on the GPS thread and wanted you guys to know also. LH Miller has agreed to buy me a GPS or install theirs. I think a Garmin would be better.

"I am looking for a GPS for my 2015 Jeep Cherokee and do not like the one that comes with it. After reading all of this post I am very confused as to what to get. I already have an IPhone with map but not good for dirt roads. It looks like the Garmin NUVO or one of their 7 " units would be good or going to an IPad mini but it seems too complicated. Could some one post a synopsis of this post?"

I have the 4 cyl and just got back from a trip to the Cal redwoods and LA. 2250 miles, 68.8 gal of gas, Cost $172, 32.8 mpg. My only complaint is the it will not drive in sand with the emergency brake on and the transmission could be fatal when trying to accelerate in traffic. In town mpg is 22.8. I have read some of the blogs and it seems to be a product wide problem. Does anyone know if Chrysler/Jeep has a fix for this or should I unload it as soon as possible?
