Nice. Looks like the cell ruptured because of pressure caused by the heat. If the fuel vapor inside had ignited before the cell ruptured there would be much less metal and much more gaping hole. :)

AH........that explains it more. I thought he had been racing as it ignited. Either way, very shitty situation and glad that everyone made it out alright.

I personally watched gas get ignited on a hot exhaust. It was my buddies toyota they built. Tipped it over on Poison Spider (99% on purpose) Gas splashed out of the carburator and down on to the exhaust. I watched the gas, then I watched the flames. There was so spark. I had the perfect view of the underneath where I was standing. They had forgotten to put the air cleaner back on which was how the gas splashed out.

Im sure it just has to be the perfect conditions for it.

Ya.....the Toyota burnt completely to the ground in a matter of minutes. We sat and watched. The worst part was the 5 brand new 38" Swampers that each blew up. 5 loud explosions!!! This was about 9 or 10 years ago.

Im glad everyone was ok. Ive had 2 close calls with the Scout being on fire. No fun

I saw this rig at the guy's house a few weeks ago. The temperature of the fire could be estimated if he knew about how much fuel he had left. Then a determination could be made on whether to scrap it. Also, depending of what type of steel was used would make a difference. If it is chromo then I would cut the burn out and start over.

Here is an update pic via Rawlin's facebook. There was a $10 a plate donation BBQ a few weeks after. I believe there was 25-30 people that showed up.

Yep, raised about $400 buck for the poor bastard. Stay tuned for a list of supporting companies that have really stepped up to help Rawlin out. I'm blown away at what people are giving him for free. :)

The chassis is made of inch and a half DOM and it was a hot fire right where the fuel cell was. Almost all the tubes still had paint on them though so i assume they are still good and as far as the rear supports i am going to put a few supports in and i think it should be good. I also cant thank everyone who has helped me out enough. It is so cool to be apart of a sport that everyone is like family. I did also start a rebuild in the general talk section to show the progress. I WILL FROM NOW ON ALWAYS HAVE MY FUEL LINES PROTECTED!!! I would recommend everyone look at your rigs and see what you can do to prevent this. Also put at least 2 fire extinguishers in your rig! it took 3 or 4 to put out the rig and a few more to stop the fire in the weeds.

I know this is a tad off topic but i seen a Myth busters almost like this where they tried to ignite gas with a heat source with no open flame and they never could get it to ignite. They tried dropping a lit cigarette in gas that had been poured out on the ground and different heat sources and never did get it to ignite so they called it busted and said you couldn't ignite gas with out a open flame:rolleyes:. Looks like they may need to do that show again:rofl: OK enough of that sorry to throw this thread off topic.

Well like others have said we were stopped when the flames lit. I also had to walk back a good 2 to 300 yards to retrieve my driveline. So it must have fallen out almost immediately. There was nothing even close to the leak other than to exhaust so this is why we think it must have been the heat from trying to keep up with casey! :D
