Reason's I like Obama.....

1. He's not been a long term politician.
2. He's recognized that the surge in Iraq has worked.
3. I was against the reason's for going to war in Iraq from before it started, so was he.
4. I think getting out of Iraq is a good Idea, I don't think we can spread democracy around the world.

Reason's I like McCain.......

1. His record proves his ability to work across party lines, reguardless of popularity.
2. He represent's the republican party that I used to know, not the religious right.
3. I think he is genuine, means what he says, and his hearts in the right place.

I think most of the time we are given a choice of the lesser of two evils. I think now we have a choice between two candidates that are significantly different that what we have seen in the last.....I don't know how many elections. And all of the negative campaigning? It's unfortunate that candidates are chosen on the weaknesses of their opponents rather than their own qualifications, but it works, so it continues.

I think this is a good post. I want to hear the positives of peoples opinions. I'm tired of all the negative crap flying around, it's getting hard to get facts and useful opinions.

I've heard this line used many many times.

Obviously, I'm a former jarhead. A grunt, (infantry) so my perspective is biased.

I don't believe that the words "getting out" fully cover what we mean.

What that means to me is LOSE another war.

Believe what you want....... but losing a war against an adversary that doesn't go away, and especially against one that started this one with us....... will have consequences.

I also don't believe that we are not fighting the "enemy" in Iraq. That is non-sense in my view. Al Qaida in Iraq is and has been the enemy. It is the Iranians that backed and supported them throughout their time of success in Iraq (which now appears to have changed).

Obama wants to negotiate with them?

I find it difficult to believe so many Americans think that might work.

Hey Jack it's a shame we lost a couple days worth of posts on this thread. I had this one already cut, so I could just re-paste it. (although now it might appear out of context)
I agree with what you posted before it was lost..... that it is good to be able to have an honest exchange of ideas without name-calling. ;)

As posted before

Obviously, we are not gonna change each others minds or anyone else's for that matter. :D

The thing that gets me about all this is........ Back when it first started. Most of the people that oppose the war now.... stood for it at the time. They had the same intelligence Bush had..... but they pass the buck on their own participation by saying he lied to them.

What if things had unfolded differently?

At the time....

Saddam had already wriggled out of the cease fire agreements he had made that ended the Gulf War. He had kicked out the inspectors, and had already corrupted the oil for food program for billions of dollars. He was shooting missiles at our jets patrolling the no fly zones that were put in place to keep him from killing the Kurds and Shiites. He had undermined the trade sanctions against him.

If we had not gone in there... where would we be right now? Obviously nobody will be able to answer that, but what we do know was that the man went down posturing. He was talking sh*t to the very end.

By now Saddam would have completely undermined trade sanctions and he would have accumulated tens of billions of dollars of which he could use however he desired. Do we really believe this (now dead man) would have changed his ways and went peaceably about his business?

Coulda, shoulda, woulda.

Leading is about making decisions. Mistakes got made. I have disagreed with Bush plenty and I'm not a fan. But he chose a course acting on the information he had at the time, and led. You can't have it both ways, you're already in a fight.... you can't just say oops I didn't mean it.

We are here now, we need to win. General Petraeus indicated that until the success of the counter-insurgency in Iraq (the surge)....... The central front in the war on Terror was in Iraq. (It has since become Afghanistan)

We can't just vote present in these type of matters. :D

Obama voted against the war, and has maintained his position against it all along. His adoring public in Europe loves him. They are all weaklings together in my view. I also believe the reason they cheer him is because he represents American defeat to them, and they love that. They don't like American supremacy and they resent the power and influence America has.

Just because Obama stood against the war....... doesn't mean we would have been any better off if history had unfolded differently. Saddam would still be here and he would have freed himself from American restriction.

Why do our enemies wish to see Obama elected?

Remember...... 10 out of 10 Terrorists would vote Democrat.

Rugged, (and Tacoma for that matter) I love it. Some of my best friends are people that disagree with me on everything. I don't remeber the post i put up that was lost, but i think the point was that I firmly believe that if everyone agreed with me, all of the time, the world would be a worse place for it.
