I have a 1994 Z71 Chevy 1/2 ton 4x4 extended cab truck. I have a warn transformer style winch mount installed. I want to add a winch and I am on a budget. I am looking at a Warn M8000 or a Smittybuilt XR10. The obvious difference is the warn is a legendary product at 8000 lbs and the smittybuilt is less known at 10000 lbs. The price range I need to stay in is around $500 - $600. Does anyone have an opinion for whether the warn will do the job I need or should I go with something larger like the smittybuilt for the higher pull rating? I will only use it occasionally and I do not plan on extreme 4 wheeling. Any advice is appreciated...

If you are looking for decoration, get the Smitty 10k. It will look good sitting there and if you do need to use it on occasion, it shouldnt' dissapoint.
By right though, you should have a 12k winch, min. on that truck. IMO a 8k winch is even under powered for a TJ, let alone a full size.
But your budget is your budget and I don't think you will have issues with a Smitty winch.
