I think milemarker is what the army uses.....

Hydraulic, and those are marginal at best as well... they may work fine on an Army application (with a pump designed for the purpose)... but using your steering pump to run your winch... nada...

milemarker makes and electric winch too though, I have a friend that runs one on his CJ7 and has had really good luck. They aren't the prettiest, but they seem to work.

Yeah, they have the 3k, 8k, 9k, 12k... but the Army hasn't ever and will never use those.... I'm not a big fan of them, sold a few years back...cheap.

Funny though... we did an exo-cage and some other misc stuff on a HUGE 4dr Unimog.... he had us mount an 12K electric winch he got off the internet... the thing looked like total Harbor Freight material.... but he and all his Mog buddies swore by them... saw him a year later down in Moab and he still said it was a great winch. I guess sometimes cheaper is better...

I just got the 9000# one :p It does look like it was made cheep..

I'm a firm believer that you get what you pay for. Exspecially when your hanging on a wall supported by a $300.00 winch:eek:

Good point there boss :D
A ramsey 9 or the milemarker?

Everyone says cheep this and that, but what ACTUALLY goes wrong if a winch goes bad? Cable break? Fire? what?

my father-in-law's trailer has a superwinch 4500 on it and it has sat outside for 2 yrs and done alot of pulling. granted not the same as being on a trail rig but it has seen some abuse.

it is definitley cheap but still works. the cover for the cable is gone, the big 's' is gone, the case came apart alttle. but it still works. i think i would be comfortable w/ a 400 dollar ramsey. i would consider that better than the superwinch but still not much money.

Motor burns up while your 1/2 up on a nasty hill... can ruin your battery or other electrical parts... Cable's are all pretty much the same...

Burned out motors, burned out solenoids, broken pins on the control plug... Ramsey's suck, buy a Warn.

I think that's a waaaay better option than the Ramseys and Milemarkers. I'm try'n to remember what I paid for my HS9500i, it was either just under 700 or just under 800.
