Four trucks from Montrose,CO headed out into Utah's Delores Triangle on 1-15-11. We went west of Grand Junction via Glade Park and the DS Road in to Utah. We wheeled out to the high beautiful overlook above the confluence of the Delores and Colorado Rivers several miles east of the Dewey Bridge area. We then went down into the Delores River bottoms and forded the Delores River and ended up at the Dewey Bridge. Then we headed north to the Cisco Ford on the Colorado River and wheeled east through 8-10" of snow along the Kokopelli Trail to Westwater where our wheeling ended. Beautiful day and the first time any of us had been out in the Delores Triangle during the winter.

Looks like a fun trip! The Dolores Triangle is amazing, you feel like there is nobody else around for miles out there! How was the Dolores River ford? Doesn't look too deep or icy. Did you see any animals?

The Delores Ford was moderate. Not too deep. There was a pretty good ice lip on both shores that made things interesting especially getting up but nobody had a problem. Further upstream the Delores is completely frozen over so we weren't sure what we were going to find at the ford. We were prepared to go back the way we had come if the ford did not look safe. We saw 2 Mule bucks in the Triangle. Saw elk sign and tracks but did not see any elk. On the way from Dewey to the Cisco Ford we saw 5 golden eagles, 1 prairie falcon, and 1 possible immature Bald eagle. The Triangle is a great place. So isolated and so different in the winter than the warm months. I'm sure glad we went though it was a long day.

A few more ford shots and one at Westwater as the sun was setting.
