Wondering about this bike

I'm considering selling my 86 yamaha xt 350. (if the other bike I'm looking at works out) It is street legal but not quite as pretty as many that I see for sale as I have used it off road quite a bit (few scrapes and good sized dents on each side of the tank). It runs well and has good tires. What do you quys think it's worth? $700? $1000? More? Less? Throw out some opinions.

Honestly $300, $500 if its in good shape! I sold my 83 Honda 500 XL with low miles and exelent cond for $300. And it took me a year and a half to get ride of.

What may help in this case (due to the current economy) is that its street legal, and more people are looking for cheap transportation. Off road type dirt bikes are definitely tough to get decent money out of right now. If you have someone willing to pay even close to $700, take it and run.

Thanks for the replies, just based on the other older 350 class dual sport bikes I've seen for sale/sold I was guessing it would be worth somewhere around 700 as most of the ones I have seen are going for 1200-1600. But, that's why I posted, to see people's opinions. ('cause after all, it's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it) Keep 'em coming.

It's worth whatever you can sell it for. I always try to buy low and sell high... key work being try. I'd probably try starting around $1000-1200, perhaps less depending on the shape it's in. You mention dents and scratches, if it was in really good shape like the one in the link, then I could see $1500. If it needs work and is beat-up, much less.

Thanks Greg. Mine looks exactly like that one but with quite a few more scratches and rather large dents on both sides of the tank. Like I said, I like riding off road. It doesn't need work tho, mechanically its great. It looks like the bike I was looking at has had a deposit on it already so I'll probably end up keeping this one for a while unless another great deal comes up. Feel free to keep throwing out opinions tho! Good knowledge for me for when I do find a good deal, or if the sale on this one falls through.

I thought I'd give a quick update for those interested. The bike I wanted came back up for sale and I snatched it. 1994 ATK 605.

I love it! It rides a lot more like my CR480 (suspension wise) except for the extra 90 lbs. That is great because of all the bikes I have ridden I like the 480 the best. The XT rode like a caddy with a geo metro engine. The only thing I would like is another gear(sixth). It has enough power to just tack one on top of fifth. I dropped the rear sprocket to a 44 tooth (it had a 48 tooth) and it still tops out around 90. Comfortable cruising is about 60. I'd like to bump the cruising speed up to about 75 w/o loosing the bottom-hence the desire for a sixth gear. Oh well, wishful thinking. Anyway, sold the XT for 700 to my friend, but if he changes his mind (he has been out of town and hasn't "taken delivery" yet) I have 2 or 3 people in line.

They are but they have changed the lineup quite a bit since 2003. They purchased everything from cannondale (as far as quads and dirtbikes) and have greatly improved the design and that is what they currently sell. Rotax quit making the 605 engine so they had to go a different route. I'm old school so I like the 605 quite a bit. As far as being a monster, it has less power than my CR480 but it does weigh quite a bit more. The suspension handles it well and the power is EXTREMLY tractable. Also, I'm really likin' the button! I think a bit of weight is worth not having to kick. (esp. 'cause the kickstarter on the ATK is kinda low) Don't get me wrong-the power is there-it's just not quite big bore 2 stroke power!
