So. It's time for tires on the dually work pig.

Option 1: regular 16" e-range tires, for like $1150.

Option 2: 19.5's, using 4 retreads in the back, for about $1250

Option 3: Hi-Tec retreads, load range F (!! sweet) for $720, mounted and balanced.

I'm thinking the retreads. Their warranty rules and I am not scared of catastrophic failure.

Thoughts? If it helps, I also need a tranny rebuild and the savings would just about cover that. :D

I just got some used/take-off 16's last week on my Ferd. Toyo AT's, 265/75/16 load range E. 2 of 'em are basically brand-new, the other two are prolly 1/2 tread. $150 for all 4--and I'd do it again, too. -_-

Personally, I'd never run retreads. I just paid nearly 2K for 6 new Michelin 19.5's. You didn't mention the cost of the 19.5 wheels, do you have those already? I'd just stick with the cheapest NEW or near new 16's I could find.

I already have the 19.5's.. paid $30 each in Akron OH. :D

KGB: what size/brand, if you don't mind... I could live w/that price.

Brian: I got those rims specifically so I could run retreads in the back, but reviews on those HiTec deals were sufficiently good that I might roll the dice on a full set.... ? ;)

For 16's, I wouldn't bother... but new 19.5's are pricey and I am relatively BROKE right now. :(

Not sure dually is at home but I was going to run used on the back but all they had was too big so I went with what they had new, their brand I think

I will NEVER run retreads, regroved is another story but that's not what you're asking about.

I've got some Kelly something or others on my dualie, 215 75 16 E's $125/ea total with road hazard. That was from IFA.... they don't sell tires anymore :( Kelly's are good tires.

If you want to try it for a cheap test, I'll start saving the 19.5's as we pull em off the wreckers. They wont be a matched set, and wont have much tread left, but they'll be free..... :D

I'll wager you wont like the harder ride you tend to get with them.

Heck yeah, I'll give it a whirl. That truck rides REALLY rough as it is, and I am kind of curious to see what the difference is.

Michelin and don't look back. Why pay twice for what you can get once?

:D

My granddad told me from when I was a little pup that Michelin's are the best. I've worked for them for 10 years, and when my personnel person recently asked me if the company has lived up to my expectations, my response:
"I still believe in the quality of the product, so yes, Michelin has lived up to my expectations"

You generally get what you pay for.
