Kristina's combo throwout bearing/ slave cylinder developed a leak last week.
The weather wasn't cooperating so today we went to wrench-it to pull it apart and see if it would be an easy fix. We rented a four post lift for 5 hours at $18 an hour, it came with a 200 piece tool kit but no rags or light. It was $10 for an All access that covers tool rental for 3 at a time all day so we got an impact and sockets to speed things up a little.
We changed out the clutch, pressure plate and combo p.o.s. last July but we did it with the engine out so we wasted some time figuring out how to pull the tranny back.
The clutch kit is lifetime warranty from Autozone so we took the broken piece back but were told we have to bring back the complete kit to get a replacement :mad::mad: so we have to remove the entire clutch and pressure plate to get a replacement throwout bearing/ slave cylinder p.o.s.:mad::mad::mad:

Wrench -It worked good because the lift made the job a lot better than laying in the cold driveway. I should have got the certificate that Shawn was selling :( I would use them again if a lift would make a job easier. they also have low rise lifts for tire or axle work or where you need the tires off the lift.

Jepp engineers from 87-93 are a bunch of idiots for putting a slave throwout combo P.O.S. in their produts, it should be a required recall for a changeout.
Autozone also has idiots for having to pull a good clutch and pressure plate to get warranty coverage, an why the he** does an entire clutch kit cost $167 and the just the slave/ throwout P.O.S alone cost $120 :mad::mad:

Kristina has helped swap out her engine and now she can pull the transmission, she's been doing tune ups, oil changes and other light maintenance for 15 yrs. She even stripped and painted her 67 VW bug in High school

I was wondering how it would work out, If you ran into complications and didnt complete the job it looks like it would get exspensive.

I had a 1989 5 spd xj and put 205 miles on it, the POS clutch slave/ bearing only lasts 60k miles, do the math, I changed it way too often.............

and the front axle ujoints dont quite last twice as long and the clutch slave

Hmm.

I guess.. Win for Wrench-It being useful? Fail for Jeep products and Autozone? I should say the one you went to... the one here is pretty decent, as they go I guess-- the staff is decent I mean.

I don't know how happy I'd be having to change bellhousing stuff every 6mos.. :D KILL IT WITH FIRE, BOB!!

We went to another Autozone and they gave us the new part without any BS :D

The slave cylinder blew the seal on the "lifetime warranty" duralast part.
The Autozone on 36th S State gave us a new Timken part to replace it.

Wrench-it here in Salt Lake is right across the street from NAPA on 13th S 7th W. It was real clean and the people were friendly and let us know if there was a cheaper option for things. The tool rental is $2.50 - $5 hour each or $10 for All Access that covers all tools three at a time. They have hourly, daily, weekly and monthly rates. It can add up fast but for what we did it worked well.
The lift made it easier to get at things and we got the tranny pushed back and bolted, the rest we can finish in the driveway. We slid it back on the skid plate, if we ever have to remove the tranny the skid plate bolts will have to be cut so the lift made getting it back and forth a lot better.
Now tomorrow I have to hook up the drivelines, hook up wires, put the shifters back and exhaust back up to the manifold then bleed the clutch.

I'm in a better mood today than I was yesterday

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who likes wrench-it. Renting a lift can make a lot of jobs way easier, I just wish they had 2 post lifts along with those drive on 4 posts that get in the way.
