Is doing a brake job on an XJ a difficult thing? I've had it for about two years, it has 72k on it, its a 97, is this something i could do in a day, easily? What do I need to get parts wise, and is it smart for me to do it myself?

I'm guessing your just doing the fronts? The fronts are way easy, if you can't do them in an hour or two........ well then something needs to change.

Just go to a parts store, pick up the new brake pads, it's pretty easy, just watch how you pull the old one's off, nothing tricky about it. I like to have a C-clamp to push the caliper back in that way you don't have to bleed the brakes.

Most definantly do it yourself, easy job. Check the rotors for excessive wear while your at it.

yea

it was a lot of fun to do it and learn. i'm by no means a little pretty boy, but i don't have much experience with automobiles. i love getting under it and working on it. i'm excited saturday because i'm gonna drain an fill the rear axle, so i can look at my own gears for the first time :) by the time i'm ready to really lift it, i'll probably have a good idea of how to work on it. thanks again.
