XJ Daily Driver 3"-3.5" lift

Guys my son is looking to lift his 1999 XJ and wants to go with a 3"-3.5" lift, whats the best route/lift?

I've read that on 97+ XJ's you can run a 30" tire @ 3.5" without trimming...he wants to run an aggressive 30" tire without rubbing or trimming the fenders. The jeep is used mostly as a DD, but does a fail amount of hunting and moderate trails, but also tows the Kawasaki Teryx frequently.

He's hoping to get a complete kit, with replacement arms (lowers), qd, shocks, etc.

My question is whats the best kit for the money? best place to buy? does he need a SYE?

Thanks in advance!

I could type up a bunch of stuff, but here's a thread that will provide some insight on the process and the evolution that often takes place when modifying a rig.

I'm not recommending the ProComp lift, but it is an option for 3". http://alljeep.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=68_69_78&page=2

I've run lots of RE stuff in the past and been happy with their components, but I've not run any of their hardware from post-bankruptcy. I hear the new rear leaf packs are STIFF. http://www.seriousoffroadproducts.c...XJ-3.5-SUPERFLEX-WITH-EXTREME-DUTY-LEAF-PACKS

Deaver would be the way to go for coils and leaf packs, if you afford it.

Not a 3.5" setup, but my XJ build thread, FWIW. http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=913774

Im running a 3" lift on my XJ cause I thought it would be low enough I wouldnt have to do the SYE. Well had to do the SYE anyway to get rid of the driveline vibes. The t-case drop I did first, didnt help either .

Try a 2" lift (front spacer and rear add a leaf) then get some long travel shocks (bilstiens), 31's and you'll be good to go just about anywhere around Utah . A friend had this set-up and it had mad flex .

I put a Rough Country 3" lift on my bro-in-law's 99 a few years ago. Pretty standard, 3" coils, lower control arms, full length AAL and shocks. I've been impressed with it. The bushings on the LCA's have been champ, it flexes great and caused NO vibes. Everyone seems to have different experiences with vibes, so just expect the unexpected I guess :D

I pieced my kit together with stuff I had laying around cause I'm cheap but I think his $350 was well spent.

I don't think you can find a more complete kit than Clayton's stuff, track bar brake lines, sway bar disconnects. Of course I don't think you can find a more expensive kit either...

I used there stuff it is super high quality, if you go with a long arm kit you probably ought to add some frame stiffeners from the beginning.

Not even close to 3.5 inches, but it is pretty much everything you can do to an xj

I am not really the person to ask if you are on a budget...
