Hey i have an 84 Xj with the V6. I am having problem with the carb i think. It runs great til you hit about 30mph then it bogs out and want to die or does die. It happened all of a sudden. I am going to rebuild the carb this next week i think but does anbody else have any suggestions on where to go with this. I am in kinda in the dark so was going to start with the carb and go from there, any ideas?

Fuel filters and fuel pump.
I would suggest this first, then the rest of the common tuneup items, and finally, I have never seen a 2.8 V6 run worth a crap for very long. So if I had one I would get rid of it, and replace it with anything, anything is guaranteed to run better than a 2.8 V6.

That sounds great but its gotta run in order to sell it lol. Its not my main jeep my wife has an 89 with the 4.0 and we love it anyhow we changed the fuel filter already with no results. Looks like i will put a pump in it also and i have never heard of this but the guy at the parts store said there is a small filter in the carb. I have never heard of it but can anyone confirm. thanks for the input

The 2-1986's I owned had a filter in the carb. I was not putting your Jeep down, I have just had a lot of bad luck with the 2.8 V6.

I have heard that alot about the 2.8 and put the jeep down all ya want lol 300 bucks and in great shape its a beater. I just got it because the price was good, i actually bought it about 4 months ago and just had it sitting on the side of the house til i got to it. So ya say there is a filter in the carb? The guy at auto zone was saying its like you pull a bolt out and it sits inside the carb, is that about right?

Actually where the fuel line goes in, there is a steel housing that also has a hexagon fitting, that if you unscrew it, inside the housing there is a filter, the filter is pretty tiny(approx. 3/4"x 1-1/2").
