My son is looking for an Xterra and I'm trying to find out some information for him. Is there anything or years to watch out for? I know nothing about them except most of the people that own them, really like them. It will be a commuter for his wife, not a hard core offroader.

Check out this post from this thread for some info..

I really like our '06. Plenty of power, room, range, and it does great in the backcountry. I've now got front and rear OME shocks, and love the simple addition. A world of differnce. OME just released their full lift kit as well. The truck will handle 10x's better even if it's an '08 by adding those OME shocks..

Don't do it, don't let Beardy trick you into joining the dark side!!

(They are a pretty cool rig with limited aftermarket)

Take note of the last line in Bart's post. Doesn't sound like they're looking for a rock crawler, so the Xterra would make a great commuter occasional camping rig, as that's what it was built for. The aftermarket is there for weekend warriors, but may be lacking for the more hardcore crowds.. But, then again, I'd never build one of these into a rock crawler anyways.. The only thing that I can think of that is truly 'limited' in options would be wheels. They have a funky 6x4.5 lug pattern. I grabbed up the last adapters from Spidertrax to run 6x5.5, but I know there are other adapters out there.

Lift kits: OME, PRG, AC, and more

Sliders: Heftyfab, Shrockworks, NXRock

Front Bumpers: ARB, HeftyFab, Shrockworks, Calmini, KMA, Iron Bull,

Rear bumpers: Heftyfab, Maxterra (local), Shrokworks, etc...

Skid Plates: Shrockworks, NXRock, Heftyfab - in the works

Roofracks: Baja racks, Gobi, Xoskel Full roofrack

Light racks: Xoskel LoPro, Xoskel cage, Xoskel rear light rack, Xoskel bumper mount

Snorkel

Raingler Nets: Here, Here, Here, Here,

While that is not a comprehensive list of all the options/manufacturers available, the Xterra certainly does not have as much aftermarket as Jeep, or Toyota; but IMO plenty to get by. The major things lacking at the moment would be ARB lockers, or any true locker aside from the OE e-locker. There is a limited slip locker being tested by several Xterra and Frontier guys right now.. Should be out to the public very soon..
