YJ back half ideas

I have been contemplating tubing the back half of my YJ project. Anyone have any pics of some. I've searched pirate and found a few but I'm not totaly decided yet. Now I will explain why I wan't to do this! First of all I got a screaming deal on a YJ project from a Scott Creasy relative who had a falling out with him. The problem is Scott redid the back half of the frame and the welds look like A**. So at the very least I need to cut it out and redo the frame. This build is going to be strictly off road so im leaning towards tubing it out.. Lets here your opinions.

The build will consist of:
TBI 350
350 trans
60&14blt
Coilovers
stack case
4 seater

I tubed the back of my old YJ and did boat sides. I don't think I would do it again.

Thats kind of the route I was thinking. Can I ask why you wouldn't do it again.

I'm already whining about where to store stuff anyway. If you lose the rear area, where will you store a few tools, a cooler or ????

Just my opinion. There's a reason to back half it, but for a trail rig, I'd keep the storage.

In my case, a really hard roll necessitated the back-half. I had a kind-of flat bed in mine. Coolers were not a problem.

I think I witnessed that roll. 30' ish....in St. George. That's one of the reasons I'd go ahead with it...

There's not that much to be gained, and a lot to be lost. You really don't lose much (if any) weight. You lose a lot of storage and functionality. The back half of a Jeep tub doesn't really get in the way of much. I would prefer a nicely done dove-tailed tub than a tube back end. Now, if you have a Jeep with a good front end, and a totally bent and mangled back end, go for it. That's why I did mine. I'm sure there's pictures around here somewhere.

dove-tail thats an idea! I guess one reason for tubing the rear would be cause I would like to push the rear seat back 10" but then I have no room for a fuel cell!

You can never really have a functional top again with a tubed back, either.

I just bought a scrambler half cab to do this. I am not in a big hurry, but I wanted to keep the heater and weather protection intact. I have a drawing of what my new tubework should look like, but I still have not decided to cut. I really want to get it on the trail this build before I chop it up more.

That yj already had a bad back-half done to it....so I wasnt cutting up a nice jeep anyways!!!

The reason I will never tube the rear on mine os for weather protection. Maybe I am just a wuss, but I like being able to have a top for bad weather or winter runs. If the back is already gone anyways, maybe you could still give the front two passengers protection with a wind jammer or a custom top from Sugarhouse Awning. However, I completely agree with RockMonkey, and would only do it out of necessity.
