You know what bugs me?

People who think their used tires are worth twice as much as they really are.

Let's look at this. For example, I'll use a Procomp Mud terrain tire in a 35" size.
4Wheelparts list each tire at $173.99. A set of 4 is $695.96. Now, of course you are going to have to pay tax, mounting and balance on these tires so toss in another $100 to cover those. Roughly $800 for a fresh set of 35" rubber.

How much do you think these tires are worth at 50% tread? You might say 50% of the price, right? I think that's fair, as long as we can agree that the tax, mounting and balance fees from the original purchase are not part of that equation. So $350 right? That sounds fair to me for a set of half worn out set of 35" rubber.

"But I paid $800 for these tires!!!"

I could care less. The tax, mounting and balance fees are the original buyers problem, they don't make the tires worth more.-_-

That is why we have the Tightwad image here on RME. We know darn near what stuff is worth and people come on here with delusions of recuperating their investment and leave sorely displeased.

I never pay more than a hundred bucks a tire for used tires...EVER!

Thats funny I just checked those out, they have less then half a pennies worth of tread left. I will give you that.... half a cent times 4 equals 2 cents:rofl:

I would expect to pay less than half the cost for half the tread. Just seems more reasonable to me. But then, RME seems to have plenty of good deals so I haven't had to sweat it so far.

I might pay $200 for those tires, and that's stretching it. 50% tread? That's well over half its life gone........unless the buyer thinks they're still good as slicks. I bought 4 nearly new Big O XT tires for about $200 from Discount Tire, which was almost 1/4 their new price, including balance and mounting.

This doesn't apply to everything, but many new products depreciate 30 - 40% as soon as they are bought. But things are a bit weird in Utah. Used items here are priced much higher than anywhere else I've experienced. Whether in a pawn shop, yard sale, or private sale, people just ask way too much.

I agree. When I posted my 35" MTR's that had less than 3k on them for $500 with rims I thought I was giving someone an awesome Deal But I got lowballed for weeks! Not just here but on KSL too finally someone bought them. I guess it goes both ways some people want something for nothing and others want a lot for crap. I think people think that because its used there obligated to haggle. Lately it seems that on here its alot of new people asking way to much for stuff. The best deals I've got on here have been from posting want ads and then getting PM's which i like because as soon as someone posts on your thread with an offer to sell 5 other guys post up " if he doesn't take it I will"

It's not just tires and such. Have you ever looked at what people are trying to get for used mountainbikes. People think the're made of gold. Now I'm not cheap and I will pay for quality stuff, but something that is used and used hard such as tires or bikes or whatever should depreciate quite a bit.

Drive a new car off a lot and it depreciates almost half.

I couldn't agree more when it comes to tires. They say 50% tread, but their not even half as good as a new tire... Still with me? Tires and Shells/Toppers are probably the worst inverstment ever!

And what is with people thinking that their 85-86 Turbo Diesel Toyota trucks are worth more than 500 bucks? They should do themselves a favor and drop them off at my house....

What about people that advertise other places then jack the price up $500 when they attempt to sell it here? -_-

And then they complain that we are cheap.:mad2:

One of my more disturbing tire purchase experiences was a member that listed a set of Krawlers for a specific price. I called, made arrangements to pick up the tires & took the cash with me to get them that weekend. When I got there I pulled out my money & was told the price was $100 more than listed. :mad2: I was pretty sure I had the right amount, but wasn't totally sure.

I should have just left & told him where to stick the tires, but I gave him my money & said I'd get the rest to him later. Once I got home, I double checked the price listed... sure enough, he raised the price on me. After confronting him about this, I let him know how unhappy I was about the transaction & that I was paying the original listed price, not the extra $100.

I can't believe the nerve of some people. :mad2: :mad2:

Especially since most people don't like going down past a quarter tread so half tread only gives you a quarter life.

I paid 800 for 4 37x12.5 r16 Creepy Crawlers on 16x9 beadlocks. The tires had been used twice.

I also sold my rig/trailer for what it would cost to buy the tires, trailer, atlas, and coilovers. It hurts to sell built rigs.

OK, I posted one of those "if he doesn't talk it I will" messages for a welder. The original guy did take it. But, a day later I got a PM from another member that he had the same welder too he was selling. It was good price and I took it. So, it works.
