Home office setups--what do you like?

Just adopting @lbryson room. It's now my office. I need a computer workstation setup. At least two monitors.

What do have?

What would you like to have?


Chair is likely important. My office chair is literally older than my kids. It's still decent but there's got to be something betterer

I have a powered standing/sitting desk and I love it. I stand about half the day, most days. Then just dual 22ish” monitors on mounting arms.

Make sure you get a pad thing to stand on so your old knees don’t hurt.

I don't have an office, I just have a corner of my bedroom with my personal PC and the work laptop on a desk. I have a single keyboard/mouse on a USB splitter to toggle between them to save space, and a setup real similar to this that lets me sit or stand which is real nice during an eight hour shift at the keyboard.

Aeron Chair. Ksl has some. Dual 27’s at least. I bought a 40” oled that I use at home. It’s nice but the screen dims which is weird, haven’t cared enough to try and sort it out. Logitec Mx keys keyboard and mouse.

Ksl has a lot of office space furniture like desks and chairs for a decent price if you have a budget. I have been looking at a couple desks lately for my boys to use.

Are you remote now or is this a new gig?

Let's say I'm planning for some possible changes but definitely want a pretty sweet setup just for home use. I guess this will be kind of a "den" in 1970s nomenclature. Here's the guest room setup in the space where I'll get a corner desk or something.

The stand up desks are interesting and I think I'd want a corner setup. Something like this would be cool, at least in my head. I'm kind of concerned about "wobble" from a cheap desk setup. https://a.co/d/8zsKdMZ

Back in March I got tired of using this old IKEA table as a desk and decided to finally upgrade my office.

Grabbed two IKEA tabletops and some Amazon special granite countertop angle brackets and built a big floating desk:

I also upgraded the lights to dimmable LED "pucks", which made a huge improvement in my basement cave.

I could make that work pretty well and I think I already have some shelf brackets from when we moved in that I didn't use. No adjustability in height but...

I could justify myself a nicer chair with the $ saved? Can the Gladiator haul that load?

I bought a Sayl chair of ksl for $100 that had cut up arm rests. I just took them off. Herman Miller chairs come in different sizes. I'm a big boy so for the Aeron chair I want the "C" size which is what I have at work. I had been trying to find one for home but gave up and have gone through a couple other chairs. I had a steelcase that was comfortable. I was leaning back pretty far in it and a leg (of the chair) broke and dumped me out and scratched up the floor. It was 100% my fault. After that I found this Sayl. Its also pretty comfortable despite looking kind of dumb. Its a smaller size but works fine for the amount of time I spend in it, which isn't much. I'm all in office so I only use my home set up for occasional homework and internet-ing when I need a big screen. If I got a remote job I would 100% pay real money for an Aeron chair though.

I'm totally sold on surplus office equipment. Its built to last a lot longer than box store stuff and because its "used" you get a decent discount off retail on it.

I have dual 27" monitors and I use 2 tables to make up my desk. I built the monitor stands to fit my laptop between them and have a better viewing angle. It works well for me. I'm home office 90% of the time. IMG_4540_Original.jpeg

I used two 78" LAGKAPTEN tabletops, and I shaved one down slightly so I could fit the bookcase in the corner.

FWIW Something lately I have changed.... somehow I ended up with a small stool under my desk.... for whatever reason. I find myself in my chair leaning back with my feet on the stool. My go to phone talking / teams meeting position now involves that little stool. If one of the kids comes and grabs it, it becomes a real annoyance to my day.

I'm using one of those electric height adjustable standup/sit down desks from costco. It has a built in wireless phone charging pad, and then it's glass so I can write notes on it with dry erase. I can't remember shit so I'm basically Leonard Shelby at this point.

I guessed there would be one maybe two people that would pick up on that one without google.

What's very frustrating is I can remember everything from like 10 years ago and older just fine. I can remember every teacher I've ever had through college, child hood phone numbers, my BMG music account number, I can remember maps and drive to addresses years later...movie quotes and authors and blah blah. But whatever I did between 30 minutes ago and 5 years ago is lost forever.

I was a big fan of Memento. Sadly its concept wouldn't work in a world with smartphones.

Age related memory loss. It happens to many people as they start to go senile.
